So, either folks are completely ignoring the wrist straps, or are flailing their wiimotes at their televisions really hard.

I suspect it's the former. Seriously, you're flailing your wiimote at the TV. If, for some odd reason, you let go, what do you think is going to happen?

And yet, one would think that good product design would include a wrist strap that wont break when people get over excited.

Okay, so some of the latter as well.

Of course, I'm laughing now, but I bet this'll end up happening to my friend's TV, too. Although, with the TV he's using it on, it might just be for the best.

I still don't get this. Is the remote made of cast iron? Are there lead weights hidden within?

It's decently heavy- if you were to throw it hard enough, you could break a TV. However... Doing so would mean you not only didn't put the strap on your wrist and use it appropriately, it would also mean your hands are fucking sweaty.

My thoughts. I've thrown my fair share of controllers at screens with some intent and had no problems.

And isn't the movement needed for actual control of the on screen action quite minimal?

either they're just plain stupid or they need better built T.V's to cope with the hardkore teknology.

it is unpossible to break a CRT with something as light as a wiimote. Most people don't realize that the glass on the front of the tube is a half inch thick.

All the broken displays on that site are LCD, plasma or rear projection.

so categorically saying "if you were to throw it hard enough, you could break a TV." is just plain wrong.

Wrong or not it's still fun to say. and yes I've only managed to break CRT screens with two things. A hammer (a big one too) and a bowling ball... don't ask on the bowling ball thing it's much less intereting than it sounds.

Because everyone loves to invade Poland?
Everyone loves a happy, fun party guy. But a happy, fun Nazi party guy?

Oh. Thats Wii and not WWII. Easy mistake.

WWII? Yet another connection. Oh Nintendo, it appears that our battle... is once again begining.

I think the entire concept of the Wii remote is just so Nintendo can laugh as a bunch of spaz's break shit with them.

I'm firmly on the side of people who say Nintendo needs to come out with a stronger wrist strap. Although I have yet to so much as loosen my grip on the remote, let alone have it fly away with any kind of force, the fact is that they're marketing a system where you mimic real-life movement with a pack-in game of fast-paced sports in large part to casual and non-gamers, and kids. The fact that some of those people would get really into the games and occasionally lose their grip seems like a no-brainer. Besides, this is Nintendo we're talking about. I fully expect that I could drop-kick my Gamecube onto the street and it would play fine afterwards. "Sturdy enough only if you use it exactly properly" has never been in their vocabulary.

Oh yeah, somewhat on-topic: these are real. These are not. They're closer than you'd expect.

EDIT'd: Because actor beat me to a better version of the first link.
