with that being said, try to avoid saving files on that drive. everything is still there, you just need a program that restores deleted files.
as for such a program... well, your google search is as good as mine :P

So in the middle of Christmas dinner at my mom's place I suddenly find myself feeling as though I've been stabbed in the stomach and hit the floor. Get rushed to the ER, spend all night there doped up on pain killers while they X-ray my back and CAT scan my brain (conveiniently forgetting to even glance at my stomach), then about two days afterwards sleeping it all off. Some people I've talked to say my symptoms are in line with atypical appendicitis, but the ER doesn't give a damn and all the regular medical staff are on vacation until mid January. So there's a possibility that there's a gangrenous organ in my stomach leaking toxins into my body and absolutely nothing I can do about it for the next two weeks unless I suddenly fall over vomiting blood. And that's the least of my worries. Apparantly someone took the liberty of getting on my computer while I was in the hospital and deleting all of my porn. I can only guess it was my mom or my uncle who rant fundamentalism at me all the time while drinking, smoking, and watching television shows about witches who did it. They did a pretty clear sweep - all eight main folders are gone, the folder with the backup doujinshi RARs is gone, my bookmarks (including the one to here, strangely) have all been deleted (not much of a problem except for the five or six sites I can't remember the URLs to anymore), my lone backup CD that's three years out of date and has less than a hundredth of my collection is missing, and even the few pics I had up on Photobucket for some reason I can't remember anymore are kaput. They even got the damn softcore stuff. I'm actually starting to think they interrogated me while I was out of it due to the painkillers, as I don't see how they could find EVERYTHING I had scattered about over less than forty-eight hours on their own. Ignoring the whole issue of my appendix and wether or not I'm about to imminently die from it, I need my fucking porn back. I know they had to have deleted it between the 24th and the 28th, as my collection was just fine before that and they haven't had access to my computer afterwards. I'm sure my mom is only worried about my immortal soul (which I sold to some succubus a few years back anyway - shame I can't remember the next few weeks afterwards), but chicks don't have to worry about blue balls. I do. And I'm not going to even try to search down and redownload five gigs of porn, especially considering that over half of it I originally got from sites that no longer exist. I can probably restore the bookmarks myself, but is there any way to get the rest of it back? If I find I'm permanently short on two years and five gigs of my life I might just have to go GTA on someone. |

If I can restore my collection I'm making hard copies of ALL OF IT and boobytrapping wherever I hide it this time. Mouse traps and shotgun shells make such lovely improvised land mines. And System Restore didn't work. All it did was uninstall Empire at War. |

Well, if you have the regular version of Norton virus installed, they usually have a secret recycle bin thing that you actually have to go through and purge to delete things permanently. If you had a copy of of ontrack easy recovery professional, most of your problems would be solved. So long as you had enough space on another hard drive where you could copy and recover the files from. I'm sure if you are competent enough to figure out how to work a bit torrent client and knew of a few sites to search, you could fix your little problem on your own. If you do go about getting this program, just make sure you put checks in the boxes in the advanced recovery options to ignore files with invalid sizes and dates and pretty much put a check box in everything for good measure, or else you get a bunch of random crap you couldn't even use and if you can use it, it's rather incomplete or you'd have 12 duplicates of one file. Don't do raw recovery, and stop downloading and moving around large files onto your drive or else you'd be writing data over the stuff you want to recover. That's as much help as I feel like giving for now. |

After checking with two different data recovery programs I found on google, over half of it isn't showing up at all, and all but a handful of what IS showing up is corrupted. So I'm going to have to assume that it's all gone. Since I didn't even notice it was gone for almost a week afterward, I doubt I'll be able to recover it. Fucking. Hell. |

You should have defragged more often in the past. I had the same thing happen except it was a virus that attacked my C drive and took out all my files except my mp3's because I shut down the computer before it was too late. I lost all my pr0n however and ran a Recovery program, everything that had been there prior to my last defrag was recovered, everything else was lost(including my MSN transcripts for the last year which I obsessively kept in a giant .ZIP file). I'm defragging now. Send me your home address via PM I'll send you a few DVDs of pron, I'll give them innocent labels, and one of them will be clean(I'll call it Vanilla Ice compilation, you can leave that one out for your parents and all they'll find is Lindsy Lohan version of the Parent Trap, the classic comedy Love Actually and Alvin Purple a classic Australian comedy). I wouldn't even be here - I'd be out slaughtering people left and right while bathing in their blood. All of my porn is on my HD but I set up 4 partitions with one just for my porn. No one really want to go onto my computer because they would feel the perversion leech from the keyboard into their immortal souls so I don't really have to worry about it. Still - I really should back up my shit just in case. Because I know there would be blood...oh yes. Jigsaw would have nothing on me. I feel for ya Yorik and hope to not see you in the papers. press start -> run type in chkdsk /r a box will pop up and ask if you will let this run on next start up. Click yes. Restart your computer. Let it run. Many times when files seem to be gone and data recovery programs call it corrupted, the files are there and the a scan fixes it. Just run it, and see. I've recovered 14 gigs in one scan before. This scan will take a while to run. |

My el-crappo, off the shelf Dell has done evil things like that before. I can't remember how many times I have had to use the factory reset on this thing. Thank Pazuzu for my having all my porn on zip disks. Now if only the goddamn thing would run my copy of City Life. I can't fart without this thing needing a new graphics card of somesuch nonsense. It won't be long before I am going to have to rent my computer a hooker just to entice it to turn on in the morning. |

I defrag every two to three days, if not daily. I did a disk check like krylex suggested, and no dice. Everything is STILL labelled corrupted. On the plus side I've found a few sites with some of the more important parts of my collection still up and running, so I'll be able to get them back over time. I'll just have to redownload image-by-image. Also, for those of you who've offered to send disks: thanks, but all of my mail is carefully screened, so it's unlikely anything will get through. Hell, they held back my Freedom Fighters soundtrack... |
