Quick question: how do I check a web page for viruses and shit before I actually open the page? And yes, this is related to Operation: Recollect Pr0n.

Preferably someone you don't communicate with much online. There are viruses that like to piggyback in e-mails and images.

You can download things like McAfee's Siteadvisor or Trend Micro's Trendprotect plug-ins for free, although really if you're using Firefox you could just disable java and javascript and be essentially fine.

STFU!

Perhaps I'm missing something, but what did he say that was so bad? There are plenty of viruses that spread through active content in emails. The bit about images was admittedly stupid, as they're not executable files (there are a handful of viruses that store inert portions of themselves inside image formats, but opening that file itself won't cause anything to happen). Or is the STFU more of a general sentiment?

Yes that sums it up nicely.

The STFU, as you put it, is a general sentiment. Psi's a fucktard, it's that simple.

As for the email idea... Let's assume I have a bucket. Let's assume that in the event of a virus, the bucket is filled with shit. Now, let's assume I have a bucket filled with a zip-loc bag that contains liquefied shit; this is roughly analogous to having an email with whatever means of virus execution we're talking about. What do I do? do I pour the contents of the shit-bag all over my body and roll around in the drippy bits?

No.

Typically container formats in themselves are innocuous- if they weren't by design, who in the world would download media? If there have been any major exploits involving them, I'm obviously not aware of. The same goes with e-mail. Often, the problem lies with the program processing the container... Such as executing things it shouldn't.

Oh, that. I assumed Psionic's was a joke also, just not a very good attempt (i.e., it would have been better stated as "preferably someone you don't like very much", not that it's hilarious either way). I thought people were mad about the factual inaccuracy in addition to the failed joke.

If that wasn't a joke, carry on.

And arwing, your previous post lacks overused image-macroness. It's like you were trying to reference that pic without posting it, or something.

Could you develop your point further for the sake of the readers? You know, explain how you came to this conclusion with evidence and suchforth. Perhaps suggest methods on how such incidents could be avoided in the future. That sort of stuff...

If you're the older versions of Outlook/Express, then yeah, pretty much.
