Yes, I know, I'm puerile, but it still made me giggle.

Oh hey, Chris Benoit was on steroids when he died. Whodda thunk it...

Steroids found in body of dead US wrestler Benoit

US professional wrestler Chris Benoit, who killed his wife and son before hanging himself, injected steroids not long before he died, a medical examiner says.

The examiner also says Benoit's son had been sedated.

Nicknamed "The Rabid Wolverine" and "The Canadian Crippler," Benoit, 40, was found dead with his wife, Nancy, and seven-year-old son, Daniel, on June 25 in their suburban Atlanta home.

Police labelled the deaths a murder-suicide.

Dr Kris Sperry, Georgia's chief medical examiner, said toxicology tests found drugs in all three Benoits, notably, elevated levels of steroid testosterone in Chris Benoit and the anxiety drug Xanax in his seven-year-old son, Daniel - an indication that he was sedated before he was killed.

Investigators said they could not conclude from test results that steroids contributed to the deaths.

There has been speculation the murder-suicide by a bulked-up professional wrestler might be a case of "roid rage" - a theory that steroid users can become uncontrollably violent.

Investigators said they found anabolic steroids among prescription drugs in Benoit's house and would try to determine if they played a role in the deaths.

They had found the levels of testosterone because he was on a prescribed testosterone replacement therapy program, to replace the test. lost when he DID use anabolic steroids to get the body he had.

Sadly, the media is taking the tragedy and using it to bring attention to the whole "Danger of steriods" drama. While the drug use in wrestling IS an issue that needs to be addressed (mostly for the health of the people performing who I, as a fan, do not wan to see more early deaths from drug abuse) they need to seperate the two issues.
One is a tragedy for which a true answer will never be found, or be good enough anyway.
One if a problem that needs to be addressed for reasons OTHER than ratings of news talk shows.

As a fan, I will eventually learn to seperate the benoit who I was a fan of for YEARS, and the benoit of that weekend who I hope burns. I will miss the performer who he was. not the monster he became.
