Well, there's also these other three that I can think of.
7.62x25 Soviet Pistol(not really that important)
7.62x33 US M1 Carbine(again, not really that important
7.62x63, or .30-'06(Much more important than those other two, obviously)

never saw the 30-06 called anything but 30-06. Same for the .30 Springfield carbine.

There is also the German 7.62 Pistol round of Broomhandle Mauser fame. '

And the 7.62x25

OK, we have had debates befor about this...best handgun round?

I think the one with the best performance in the world right now is the 10mm Auto FULL LOAD!!! Not the limp dick FBI load that the cut down because they couldn't qualify with a real handgun!

Runner up: .45 ACP Clasic still has amazing stopping power, good field accuracy and the 1911-A1 going for it. Lower speed than the 10mm but solid nonetheless.

I've heard some very good things about the .45ACP and the .40S&W, but as I have no firsthand experience with either, I'll withhold my opinion.

Though personally, I think the skill of the person firing the pistol is far more important than the caliber of the pistol.

.40 S&W is good at normal pistol ranges but loses accuracy over longer distances. I'm sure high-quality match-grade ammo would fix that though.

*leafing through Jane's Guns Recognition Guide*
The Star Megastar, Smith&Wesson Third Generation Pistols, Colt Delta Elite, Colt Double Eagle, and. . . Hrm, that's all I can find in here. I think Glock makes a 10mm model too.

Glocks are good weapons but I have some trouble with their grips, they don't seem to fit my hand really well. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, that's why I prefer the Beretta M9.
Sure it's only 9mm, but if that's good enough for the military, that's good enough for me.

My personal Beretta M9... failed to impress me. Ran a few different types of ammo through it, and it's not accurate enough even at moderate distances to please me. SIG's are what I go with most often, they're dependable and accurate, but expensive as hell.

For coolness factor, I like my Uberti .44 magnum single action revolver. Mm mm good. Spare cylinder chambered for 44-40, 44 Russian and 44 special. Though not what I'd carry with me as a personal defense weapon, it's still damn cool. Good for hunting too supposedly but I've never had the opportunity to test that.

Wheee. . An excuse to post the pics from my "physics project."

And yes, technically it is for physics class; my teacher is actually allowing this for my project.

Clay knows about this one ...

My plans are to aquire an Uzi that looks like the ones you see in the movies, then have it modified to accept .22Long Rifle ammunition. That way I could actually get a clip that could hold as many bullets as they do in the movies! Now there's a (machine) pistol!

Although, for general weapon purposes, I want the Barrett M82A1, but it's a bit overkill, I guess, and I would have to make sure there wasn't anything behind my target for a few miles.... talk about over-penetration. Unless I'm taking out an APC or a helecopter, I think it's a bit too powerful, but imagine the look on your neighbors faces when they come over to introduce themselves and they see that monster hanging on the wall...

Yeah, I don't know if I told you but I want to make mini-Thompson that holds about 250 rounds of .22 LR ammo. The original prototypes for the Thompson were .22s actually, so I am sure it will work to some extent. Just not sure about a regular feed from the drum magazines. I would slow th rate of fire to 350 RMP. That should help.

Just wanted to make sure all the people complaining about the .50 Desert Eagle have heard about the S&W .50 caliber magnum revolver.

What a complete piece of shit that thing is, who wants to pay 35$ for 12 rounds?

Or lives up in Alaska and needs one to keep in his car in case of bears or moose or who knows what.

Except for that, I can't think of a good use for that kind of gun. Being a slightly-shrunken cannon sorta defeats the purpose of being a handgun (concealability).
