Indeed. The best dictators are the ones who convince the public that whatever he is doing is for the best of the people, and make them like him.

I was under the impression Bush hadn't declared the full state of emergency, Krylex. If I'm wrong, then I'll be mighty surprised.

MiB, which platitude? The "mushroom conspiracy" one? Because that sort of political infighting can often generate temporary alliances that last surprising amounts of time. Like factions.

I was saying that in reference to "IF" a state of emergency is declared. None has been thus far to the best of my knowledge either...

So you're claiming there will be an alliance among all the political factions in the white house, congress, the FBI, DoD and CIA? Or that that situation is even feasable? Thats literally hundreds upon hundreds of people- remember that when any amount of people more than 1 knows a secret, then the risk that that secret will get out grows. The situation you're suggesting simply isn't feasable. Unfortunately, you rarely take realism into your paranoid ramblings- merely the assumption that anyone can co-opt every single political hack who would love to make every other political hack go down in flames.

Not to mention the lower level FBI people, since any idiot can notice you're not taking arab terrorists but a grippa people who just disagree with whatever political statement you have.

You simply cannot keep such a thing secret. And as soon as its out, the fictional alliance falls apart as everyone tries to cover their own asses and blame someone else. Again, Anubai, I implore you to stop responding to a logical analysis of a situation of the naturally evolved checks and balances, the huge political splintering, etc etc, with one-liners or "well, <impossible situation under the circumstances I gave you> could happen!"

Or, to be more specific, your alliance thesis. The suggestion you're giving me is that secret alliances will pop up that will unify not just all of the fighting factions within each of the agencies, but all of these agencies that have rivalries, power struggles, jurisdiction contradictions, secrets they wish to keep, etc etc, between themselves. I'd just like you to take a good look at all the requirements for such an alliance, and then tell me once again that its worth considering as a possibility. I ask you once again to please stop simplifying an entire political environment into a single line of text which skips way too much to be worth considering.

How about this, Anubai? I can claim there is/can easily be an illuminati conspiracy that really rules the world with the same assumptions you have. Disprove me or accept that there is probably a huge conspiracy ruling the world.

I accept! Woohoo!

*does mad happy dance of little sleep*

Seriously, though, it's fair to mention I said temporary alliances. As long as the threat to the position of those in question is not present, in-fighting can resume.

Do they always have a choice?

Yeah, I'm simplifying the politics of the situation. Sorry 'bout that. Heh. But I like making people justify themselves.

Not to mention that intelligent debate is fun, too (which isn't always the case here, but still...)!

Make a counterpoint:
Competing groups need not unify to fight for a common cause. Example: the Tobacco companies. In '68 onwards, they banded together to fight the restrictions placed on their advertising (probably did so in some other ways before, but I know too little of those to mention with confidence).

-Abunai!

Gyaha, I say!

They had a common interest. Seperate political entities (especially the ones named) often do not, and sometimes have contradictory interests. There are really old quasi-hostilities between the FBI and the CIA for reasons.

Bad example, Abunai. (woo, I spelled it right)
