Up a few posts, MiB, I think you're missing the point. The point of the democracy is to:
A. Make fair decisions for its populace, with re-election being the incentive (that is to say, the people who make favorable decisions are re-elected, sort of like a Darwinian model), and
B. Preserve the democracy
You cannot say that, if rights are infringed, it's obviously no longer a democracy, because the point of democracy is to protect against just that. By that logic, we could end all laws, because a democracy has some inherent protection against crime. It doesn't; it is a process, not an institution, per se.

The point of democracy is to protect its citizens. Just like every other government. People give up certian rights to recieve this protection. Thats how government works.
Again, to reiterate, voting is a privlidge, not a right. Like driving. If you do something bad, you get the privlidge revoked. Re-election; that is also a privlidge.

I say all criminal offenders of any kind be executed immediately. Then feed them to the homeless of America. Then ship the rest over seas to one of those crazy Buddhist countries like Iran.

Heh. You speak of voting like it was a PRIVILEGE, alright. Where I come from, it is MANDATORY to vote, or you have your voting privilege/right revoked, and you have to fill out paperwork or something to get it back.

I have vowed not to vote, ever. Mainly this is due to the unrealistic age expectations that exist in Singapore. At 18, you are already expected to be in the military (at least for men) and start voting for your govenment. But you're not allowed to watch adult movies at the cinema until you're 21. What is that supposed to mean? That mentally, we are mature enough to die for our country and choose (from one of 2 political parties) our government, but not enough to glimpse nude b00bies?

No Unum, I'm saying in the scenario you provided means that the people have no real choice- thus I no longer classify it as a democracy.

that's what you do with criminals, sure it'd catch most of them too late to stop 100% of their breeding, but it would be a pretty good move none the less, like voting it would stop a degree of your influence on the future of society, and probably put people off crime more than taking away something they've never used anyway
