Kali_Ava: "Never hit a woman" but a man is fine to hit?
Friend: Yes.
Kali_Ava: That's ridiculous, and doesn't have much basis behind it other than past social rules. Because a women would always lose the case if she were prosecuted for being in a fight with a man, while the man (who really started the fight) would come away free. It was unfair, but that type of discrimination in the courts is passed.
Friend: Bullshit!
Friend: The woman is ALWAYS cast as the victim.
Kali_Ava: Victims are always victims, no matter the gender. However, if the woman starts the fight, then she should be prosecuted. She would be the bad person, and the man would be the victim acting in self defense.
Kali_Ava: That's how I see. You shouldn't hit anyone at all, in the long run. But if you hit someone, it's because they deserve it. You shouldn't restrain yourself just because they're female. They're equally responsible for their own words and actions.

I've had similar conversations with many a men. I am curious, why should a man never hit a woman, when he would another man? (as far as an actual fight is concerned, not joking around)

IF a man gets into a fight with a woman and wins, he's the Big Bad Evil Man who is preying on a Helpless Woman. If he loses, he's the Humiliated Wussy Boy who got beat up by a woman.

It's a double standard, and I personally don't agree with it, but that's about how it works. Nothing to gain from winning, an awful lot to lose.

And having seen women fight, I don't think I'd want to fight one anyway - your gender can be downright mean. I *like* my hair. Attached to my scalp, thank you.

You do have a point. So you don't hit a woman because it simply isn't in your best interest?

It's odd, generally men who have been raised to never hit a woman also have "honourable" fights, which is in some sort of male Code of Knowledge that women don't obey. While pulling hair seems senseless, when fighting a woman, "watch your crotch."

;D

Illogical social assumptions bite teh shit. *grumbles and mutters about humanity being stupid*

I just solve the whole dillema by not hitting people.

It's really quite simple.

Ive had to make tough calls on this during tournaments. Something I regret was getting 2nd in the biggest tournament of my life for hesitating to hit a girl.

Much love.

In a tournament (whatever sport), the issue doesn't really come up. It's not a hostile environment, nor is it really a fight.

Anyhoo, I generally avoid fights (through wordplay or quick feet, whichever) since I don't see the point in getting in one you don't stand a pretty good chance of winning. If I think I can win, and that I can get away with it, and I've got a decent reason, then why not? The thing is, it's a lot harder to get away with it if the person you're fighting is female. I don't hold to those outmoded "rules of warfare" or what have you, but since I will most likely be judged, then I've gotta make Machiavellian descisions.

just got for a quick low underarm gut-punch, they'll never expect it and it leaves less "i'm such a victim" obvious marks like a good smack around the head would

if you want a fair fight then you pick on someone your own size, and other than our skinny weedy nerd types around here, girls tend to be physically smaller/weaker on average then men, so if they start something it's our duty to educate them in the truth of not punching above their weight, i mean really, there are a number of ways other than physical violence to solve problems, but if that's the one they choose...

better that nice guys like us teach them that lesson than some less nice guy they try it on only to wake up dead in a back alley the next morning eh?

This reminds me of a female friend of mine. We go to the same highschool, but different dojos. Well I used to go to a dojo before the bastards kicked me out. Every otherday, she jumps me and tries to punch me. And I don't mean little friendly punches, I mean she tries to beat the hell out of me. I usually end up having to pin her down, so she walks of without a mark and I got arms and ribs covered in bruises. I remember one time I was walking with a guy I met in highschool a few months ago, and he had never met her. We were 'bout 2 blocks away from school and she poped out of nowhere and jumped on me. He freaked out and we laughed. Shes pretty cute, so as long as I still get to pin her she can jump me all she wants. My point is, I'd never punch her, or anyother girl for that matter, but I have no qualms about holding them down till they calm down.

Much love.

It would be sexist to hit a man and not a girl.

I don't think that when fighting one should really worry about the gender- you just fight, because thats all you really can do.

Ancient, you are lucky, having girls jump you all the time. Dare I ask how you got kicked out of the dojo? Did you hit a girl?

i personally would try submission and restraint of them FIRST, reguardless of gender

this usually works on women, cuz most are not as strong

...but those that are....oh i'm FUCKED.....

and as for men, harder to restrain, so a straight up fight is more expected than my being able to subdue them

though i've seen it happen

No. They just kicked me out for a week, but it was for such a stupid reason that im too disgusted to go back. During a match I sprained a guys neck. He wouldn't be able to go back for a week, so I got booted till he felt better. Makes no sense to me, hes same rank and older than me, and I didn't use any moves that were against the rules, all I did was shift my weight and he refused to give up even while the muscles in his neck where tearing. Gotta give him props for that, but it was kinda stupidd too. If he didn't start crying I would have never noticed and the idiot would have died. If your in pain and/or dieing give up! So I got kicked for his stupidty so the guys parents wouldn't get pissed with the dojo. In other words, I took the blame. This time im gonna find a dojo with a bit more balls.

Much love.

Fixed.

This is where discrimination comes to bite someone in the ass. Because women used to be discredited ("You lie. This is an honourable man!"), now they're overcredited ("You are the victim because you're female"). It's still a sexist policy, but equality is but an illusion for the real world, unfortunately. Though it doesn't make much sense as it would seem a normal human should be capable of logic and reasoning.

If a man jumped on you, of the same height, weight, and skill as your female friend, would you have fought him or restrained him?

I make no to attempt to hide it, I would beat the hell out of him. Yes I know its a double standard, but it what I was brought up to believe. Im not defending my actions, but Im not changing them either.

Much love.

First off, ask her out. She's got the hots for you, and you two seem to get along well enough.

Secondly, it isn't outwardly right to hit anyone. I'll hit a man if he hits me or deserves it, or a woman if she does the same. Now, playfighting is very different. If a girl attacks me, I usually just pin them down. Makes the bedroom very fun.

The important part, I think is not so much the act of hitting (though there is some psychological significance to the act of striking) but the inflicting of injury. It's okay to give a guy a couple of bruises; it's not considered okay to do the same to a woman, whether or not it's self defense.

And as Ancient's experience demonstrates, sometimes people just won't be reasonable and give up, and you've simply got to hurt them.

I have, pretty much everyday. She says maybe next time every time. Then she jumps on my back when I turn around. Strange girl, but she makes things interesting. Im patient, I can wait till she says yes. I just wish she would stop going for the ribs...

Much love.

Its a challenge dude, she wants the agressive side of you to pursue her.
Its your time to ambush her. Waiting for her to resign to saying yes may end being a bore to her, and cause her to look for someone else.
She is sparring.
Go for broke Ancient.

next time she goes for the ribs, take it and go for the grope (and i mean boobs...or maybe butt.) tell her it's payment for all the bruises you let her give you.
