Everyone speaks first draft.

How similar to your real life persona is your interweb one? And, if they are different, why?
Very similar. I'm both more open, and more guarded in what i say online, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm more open about some things, but i'm more guarded about others. Though i follow a generally similar pattern which i think holds true for most people. When i first join a community online or offline, it takes me a while to get a feeling for what is considered acceptable, so i tend to be quiet at first, become more outspoken as i become more comfortable.

Do you think it is partially lying, misrepresenting yourself, or is it a natural part of the internet?
I think it's a natural part of all human relations, to be more careful about what you let people know when you first meet them, and as you become comfortable to be willing to reveal more about yourself and your opinions.
I also think that the internet is the only place where true roleplaying can take place, without the visual and auditory cues, you only have the person's online personnality to go by. A sort of meta-roleplaying, so to speak. You can be anyone you want to be, try out different personallities, different ideas. You can be more honest online, because noone has to know who you are, or you could be totally dishonest, because noone will be able to tell. Online, people tend to believe any reasonable claim, because there's no reason to lie.
