ZOMBIE FORUMS

For many a year I have been enthralled with the concepts of culture jamming, Operation Mindfuck, and meme hacks. Check Wikipedia if you are onclear on a term or whatnot. Some goon of times past was very helpful in elaborating upon the methods of screwing with your fellow man.

Unlike some of the nutters out there, I'm never attempting to provoke social change or prove a point. I simply like seeing the look on a man's face as he experiences a cerebral blue screen of death, unable to comprehend what the hell is going on. For me, its usually something simple. A quarter superglued next to a payphone, weird messages left on toilet lids with a lablemaker, or posting stupid things on doors saying things like 'Please Do Not Feed The Sign'. Meh. It works.

One thing I have in the works involves sticking a pair of chicken feet in an apple or other fruit and a few tailfeathers out one side. Multiply that by a bag of apples and scatter them across the courtyard of the local college. I have a feeling it will at least get a few looks.

Now that I have that out of the way, I would like to discuss how you feel about such things. Are they unexcusable acts of asshattery? Harmless and somewhat amusing acts that liven things up for a few moments at a time? Do you think they have some redeeming benefit other than the obvious mirth it causes the perpetrator? I wish to know.

I would also like to invite the lot of you to post any examples that they have themselves performed in the past.

I find all these acts perfectly acceptable and humorous.

My brother and his friends once hosted a public access show that involved a fuckton of crap designed to screw with you. You had a guy in what looked vaguely looked like a giant asparagus stalk, a massively overweight urban barbarian guy who has the whole McDonalds caveman thing going on, and about thirty minutes of fucke-with-your-head.

Alas, I was merely an immature larvae yet to burrow to the surface when it was made. Crap, but funny crap.

I wholeheartedly apporve of such tactics, and deem them necessary for society on a whole.
Especially IN highly populated areas such as NYC.
The general mood of a large group of people is distrust and general disdain.
Random acts of Sillyness may actually be the thing that even one person out there needs to completely redeem their whole day.
I go out where ever I am and try to be amusing and silly, because you never really know just how much it could help someone who really needs to laugh and doesnt even realize it.
As long as nobody gets hurt and no property is damaged, then im all for it.

I have personally included people on a train or in the elevator with me into any silly conversation I may be having and more often than not, the humor breaks the ice pretty quickly and they go along with the joke or conversation and When i am leaving, I leave them with a smile on their face that they did not have when they got into the train or elevator..

Question: At exactly what point does this go from benificial or generally harmless to pain-in-the-ass or worse.
This question applies both to the internet and the old flesh-and-blood existence.

When it starts to focus on a single person. When you aim your asshatery at a group of people it is funny. When you single out one indivual and make them look like a fool in front of their peers it changes.

Probally the best current mind fuck at the moment.

Yes. But I have also heard of jail rape.
That said, I'm gonna go out and do something to get myself arrested.

Messing with people's heads is fun, albeit with the qualification mentioned above. It aleviates the tedium of everday life and sometimes helps to highlight the absurdity of things we take for granted. I have been fascinated by the subversive art of people like Banksy and Ron English ever since I was first introduced to them a couple of months ago. However, I do sometimes find it difficult to reconcile some kinds street art with my views on personal property and vandalism.

I also really love random acts of weirdness such as the recent Brisbane Zombie Walk (inspired by the similar annual event in Toronto), which I sadly found out about far to late to participate in. Unfortunately some of the people involved did reportedly go a bit overboard and inadvertently reduced a waitress to hysterics. However it was generally just a bit of good, 'clean' fun.

My own random acts of weirdness tend to be much more low-key things, such as staging a conversation with a friend over the artistic merit a brass screw sticking out of the wall at an art exhibition, introducing myself to people as 'Kevin' (I'm female, in case it isn't obvious) and randomly saying things to people like "Wait, you're not John! Who are you? What have you done with John?". I usually do this because I think it's funny, rather than for politcal reasons. Opinions as to wheter it actually is funny tend to differ.
