i've been messing about with this all "day" (read from 12AM to 4:30AM) and having gotten it to a somewhat 'completed' stage, i have what could be used as a forum logo which i am quite happy with, but i am at a loss as to what would be awesome to put on it.

So i'm making this thread so you guys can fuck around with it, make silly amusing stuff, or serious submission about what you think Kyhm Forums should be called, and what our slogan should be. Since i have absolutely no pull as to making my dreams come true, this is currently a timekiller for fun, but you never know, eh?

Now you can either use these logo's as templates and mspaint/shoop your changes in, or start from scratch. Text ideas are also acceptable, but seeing people mess around with the images is so much more fun.

NOTE: The latin text on my first image is "meretricis per stipes duco astrum per impleo", which, according to this online english to latin translator means "whore by post count star by content".

so have at it, amuse yourself and other forum goers, and perhaps stumble across our new identity in the process (no garuntees)

I liked the Latin phrase, though one of those ---> , <--- little thingies (I admit I have no idea how they are called in English) should be added for clarity's sake.

Seems pretty fitting for a logo given the current state of things, really.

I can see the images now. Why not just put "Kyhm Forums" on the shield thing? *shrugs*

Do we still want to be called Kyhm forums? This is an opportunity to develop an identity and a direction. Remaining Kyhm Forums is one of those directions, but there are other possibilities.

I, personally, would like to see the forums become a sort of a creative hub, not neccesarily something as serious as the CA Forums or polykarbon forum but definitely something where people come to participate and have a laugh. Be that centered around a webcomic or webcomics, or something else entirely.

what we center the forums around will dtermine the type of new users we attract - and we do need to be able to attract new users.

I don't want this place to ever be "serious"...but if we renamed it...it would just not feel right, yea? I've not been here for as long as some of you guys, but I've still be around a while...and even if we officially changed the name, I'd still call it Kyhm's. So why change it? I can't be the only one who would do that.

And, yea, we should be able to attract new people...but we always did. I mean, look at me. A chance meeting with a chica at a school and she got me hooked. ...even hooked me up with a guy that lurks around here. And now, despite the fact that said chica will never speak to me again for some reason, and the guy and I broke up...I still hang around.

We don't need any sort of gimmick, anymore than we ever did. And if there was one...I remember lurking around here because I was told I wasn't as internet-jaded as I thought I was. And this place was the proof. I still regret having ever seen tubgirl. Seriously.

I think I stopped making sense, so I'm gonna stop now.

there is a small influx from 'unnoficial invitiation" but it's not enough to fight churn (the steady amount of people that would leave every month/year/etc) if you don't have a reason for new people to visit and contribute the community will stagnate and die.

i hope that this thread serves three purposes;

1) generate discussion about the content we want to aim for on kyhms when CAS moves on

2) generate discussion on the look and feel we want for the forums

3) have a few laffs.

I suggest changing the name. The community is more than just its name, it is its members, its injokes (yes, even the stale ones we wish would stop), its history. Plus kyhm wants his name and his domain back. Sure, for a long while I'll still call whatever this place becomes kyhm forums, purely because I've been calling it that for three and a half years now. I don't feel that it would be ignoring our past or even hiding it from future members, but a graduation from being a forum created by a bunch of EN fans who wanted a decent place to hang out but no other real purpose into a truly independent community with its own purpose and reason for existing.

From what I've seen of the community, the thing that most links us together still (other than the community itself) is webcomics. This is why I have been suggesting a general webcomic discussion forum, it would help bring the community closer together and also serve as a place where any webcomic could be discussed.

It may bring in some additional members on it's own, but I see new members being attracted more by the creative energies coming from the forum. Developing the forums as a creative hub would help with bringing in new members who would at least be interested in the same things we draw or write and put on the frontend.
