Post subject:  Battlefield: Hive City OOC Thread

I figured we should start a thread, since it'd happen eventually. Use it if you need it.

Mad, for what its worth, I think that you got the character of the commissar pretty good. And just so you know they are not law enforcement, they are political offcers who job it is to keep the faith and moral of there imperial guard and imperial navy. They are ruthless and fearless individuals who have the power to perform summary battlefield executions if they feel that it is warrented.

This will be a little lengthy, but hopefully informative about commissars.
I think you got the character pretty correct, but I wouldn't describe him as large. I picture him more like tall and lean, dressed similar to the 40K commissar models. Let's see if I can find a picture...
Image or Image, just without the mask, and with different weapons. You've got to love that uniform.

The Imperial commissars are pretty much the same as the Soviet Red Army comissars: Accompanying officers to make sure they act in a correct way politically (and religiously, this is the Imperium), and maintain discipline. Ah, whatever. I'll just ccut and paste the part on Comissars from the fluff bible. In 40K, there's a special rule for commissars: If the unit they are with falls back, they execute the officer of the unit, and then the unit must take a Ld test and either the commissar assumes command, or they frag him and run.

Quote:
Commissars
Imperial Guard regiments are recruited from all over the human galaxy. Warriors from one planet speak different, sometimes unintelligible, dialects or practice strange customs which are baffling to soldiers from other worlds. These vast differences make it hard for some regimental commanders to operate closely with troops from different worlds. If colonels, captains and lieutenants are to function as part of a cohesive army they must be united in their common purpose no matter how culturally diverse their backgrounds might be.
Commissars provide the link between regimental commanders and strategic officers. Commissars have to be tough. Some regiments are composed of savage former gang fighters, or vicious barbarians, who are naturally antagonistic to authority. The colonel of such a regiment is likely to be as wild and anarchic as his men, if not more so! The loyalty of such troops must be earned and the Commissar must be prepared to demonstrate his courage in battle.
Commissars are recruited into the Departmento Munitorium from the Schola Progenium, the rigorous orphanages for families of Adepts run by the missionaries of the Adeptus Ministorum. Many serve as Storm Troopers before becoming Commissars, so they are hardly strangers to warfare. Every regiment has at least one Commissar and many large regiments have several who remain with the regiment while it is deployed in a war zone.
The chief task of the Commissar is to preserve the fighting spirit and loyalty of the regiment. If discipline is lax the Commissar will step in to reinforce it. If the regiment's officers are incompetent or lack courage the Commissar must retrain and fortify them or, failing that, allow the regiment's squads to be dispersed to other commanders. If troops are rowdy and troublesome the Commissar must keep order. A Commissar knows that the best troops are the hardest to keep in line. He embodies strength, bravery and loyalty, and serves as the ultimate example of human courage.
Commissars are also zealots fiercely loyal to the Imperial Cult. In the Schola Progenium they are schooled to love the Emperor and desire nothing more than to serve to the best of their abilities. They tolerate no disloyalty and remain vigilant for spies, mutants and agents of chaos that may have infiltrated the men under their charge. They are versed in the Imperial scriptures and will frequently give readings before battle is joined. Most of all they despise the Emperor's enemies and desire nothing more than the chance to crush the foe beneath the righteous heel of Imperial might.

cool,

*mad slots the information into his head for future use, and files out some useless knowledge...probably something to do with Super mario Kart or some such.

as i wasn't quite sure of a commisar's role, i just hazarded a guess from Immanio's posts, and the general fomation of the imperium. Authority figure in the imperium? moslt likely a zealos believer, Rock Hard, and obsessed with justice. Another type that mar doesn't really want much to do with...like he's got any real choice. who knows what the commisar would do to hunt down the boy with psyker ability that fled from him? torch his way through a settlement? the Imperium can be swift and harsh with it's Justice.

Yeah, Commisars are rather cool. I really like the Catachan's special rule for them(Oops, sorry sir.) Since I forgot to do so earlier, I'll describe my character's background in a little more detail.

Shas'Ui Telkure
A young but tallented member of the Viro'la Pathfinder force, Telkure has risen to the equivalent of Veteran Sergent in rank quickly. Adept at shooting from the hip, he has developed a reputation as a warrior not to be trifled with. Knowing that he is more than likely going to spend most of his career fighting the guela(humans), he has taken some pains to learn their weapons and armor, and a bit of their language. He is semi-fluent in Low Gothic, but speaks it with a heavy accent. When a Water Caste merchant passed by Viro'la looking for a bodyguard, he volunteered, hoping to put some of his knowlege into practice.

Description: 5'1" tall, grey-blue scaley skin, ice-grey eyes.
Equipment: Pulse Carbine, Pathfinder armor/w hardwired Blacksun filter, EMP grenades.

Ah, let's see...
*insert whatever curses you can think of here*
I had a relatively long thing written for the RP thread, and when I clicked submit, it gave me an 'invalid_session' message, nothing was posted, and the text disappeared. Remind me to write these things in WordPad from now on and copy them over...

Chaz, the tay don't use the word frag, infact its only the imperial guard that use that term, and then some regements use other curse's

Generic profanity, my friend. Besides, I am quite sure they have an equivalent in their language, I just didn't feel like making up an alien curseword. More often than not, they just don't sound like profanity.

One constant of soldiers everywhere, in every time, is colorful metaphores to describe things they don't like. I've read some Tau fiction with many and various curse words, but they didn't 'feel' like profanity. A curse word needs hard consonants and such. I came up with one and fixed my earlier post. It kinda works, but its better than a clearly human curse.

I'll be going away for the easter, meaning I'll be gone for a little over a week. I'll see if I can write a post in the RP thread today or tomorrow before I go.

Well, it seems the thread has died down a bit. Which is probably in part my fault for being a lazy, procrastinating bastard. I don't intend to let it die quite yet, though, so I'll see about writing up a new bit. (Still, we know how much to trust me by now, eh? I'll do my best.)

I guess I should be the one to post next. Just haven't got around to it after the forum ate the post I made.

Looks like this thread is going again. Unfortunately, My internet access is limited to roughly one hour a week, so I can't really participate any longer... I'll be lurking to see what happens, but I'm kinda out of it. If anybody cares to take over my Tau lad, go for it.

Wait until I've gone about a week without posting before taking over my character. I might be able to stay. Haven't figured it out yet. I'll try to post as often as I can in the RP until I can be sure of what will happen. If I go a week without posting, you can be fairly sure that I won't be back for a while, and then it's fine to take my character.
