The Market.

The only place in the neutral district to buy anything that wasn’t going to get your thrown in jail- contraband was available in the alleyways, though it had gotten a lot more expensive since the cave in.

Velthis put his hand on his stomach as it rumbled a bit, taking out a bit of seaweed to munch on. The market smelled of many things- blood, feces, unwashed human, lizardman, fishman (which Velthis didn’t notice) and craftsman, but also sweet spices, presumes, and other pleasant smells.

He walked down the street, taking in the scenery, wondering how he might better learn from this latest situation he was put in- the cave in, the lack off food, all of that would make for an interesting experience to profit from, so long as he didn’t starve…

But it was no use thinking of that. He paid 6 credits for 2 days worth of food- an absurdly high price, but the food shortages demanded it. He heard the price was even higher in the other districts.

As he was walking down the street, he saw Stephan Alzis’ mansion coming up, which was a huge place, “donated” to him for a favor if the rumors were true. Alzis himself was standing at an open window on the third floor, admiring the marketplace and brooding over the latest developments, no doubt.

Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass was heard, and a few rooms down from the one Alzis was in. Someone had jumped out of a window! The person fell onto the ground, rolling with the impact, and got up running, quickly making his way out of the compound, which had no visible guards. Velthis noticed Alzis’ shoulders rise and fall, as if he had given a long sigh. Then he heard a soft command, spoken as if next to him, in Alzis’ voice.

“Please catch that thief.”

Most of the marketplace was silent for a moment, as apparently everyone had also heard the quiet command from the leader of the neutral district, despite the fact he was a good 30 yards from the marketplace. A few hardy souls unsheathed their weapons and gave chase to the thief. Velthis, figuring anyone stealing from a leader’s mansion must be up to something interesting, he took out his trident/hook weapon, the traditional armament of the Skell militia, and starting running after the thief, deeper into the district…

OOC: Jump in however you wish, as the thief, some of the people running after him, a passerby etc. Just know either myself or eronarn wishes to write the “catch” scene, where the thief himself is caught. You can write something like a backlog, what you were doing just before this happened etc etc, and then give chase. Basically just a method to get everyone in the RP together. /OOC

Exliran was walking in the market in the nutral district. He had a great love for the area, it was alive with sounds and colors that one could find in few otehr places. He meandering thoughts were interupted by a loud crach and a voice speaking into his ear “Please catch that thief." Exliran looked around quickly and saw a man running away from the Alzis mansion. Eliran's anger was immidietly roused, for a thief goes against everything that Exliran was working for. A society of trust cannot exist when your neighbour steals from you.
Exliran cut his thoughts short and started to run after the thief.

Lieutenant Hra'rok'nol patrolled through the marketplace. At a height of six foot six, with a muscular frame, it was hard not to notice the lizardman... his electric-blue chitin armor didn't help to conceal him, either.

But, today, he wasn't here to fight. He was passing through town when the collapse happened, and trapped, he decided he'd make the best of it. Taking a piece of facesquid jerky out of a pouch, he munched thoughtfully as he remembered his own home town, a small place like this in the Greater Wards area.

Sadly, though, he was startled out of this peaceful rest from his rather stressful job.

As he gulped down the last of the jerky, he heard a crash, and immediately crouched to a ready position with his Cor'roth drawn. Having a knowledge of tactics, he looked through the crowd, and spotted a person running away from the direction of the noise.

Judging correctly when he heard Alzis' voice, if it was really speech, he began to race after the man with controlled, even bounds, certain to close in on him eventually. His Cor'roth was ready in the throwing position.

Nearby, he saw a Skell running as well, and he mentally took a note to award him with a commendation for this act.

James is in the marketplace today. Its really not his favorite place to be, but he had work, and work means money. James looked up from his current project just in time to see all the people running off at Stephen's command. He let out a little chuckle under his breath and went back to what he was doing. This project was good for James. It gave him some time to get his mind off of the currect situation he was stuck in. The cave in blocked him off from a good deal of his supplies and his many living hideouts of sorts. He was more disgruntled by simply not having access, as he was fairly sure that all of his possessions were safe, as no person would be able to find them. Luckily for him, today's project did not need but the bare essentials to get done. It was a rather simple project, just a small device to protect the purchasers wares from theft. Quite simply, if anyone yanked something off his table, a release would be triggered and a small dart would be fired into the guilty party. Granted the dart isnt enough to do any major damage, the owner of the kiosk got a hold of some very potent poison and the antidote. He felt that lacing the darts with the poison and being the only one around with an antidote would be security enough. James was just simply hired to implement the device. After rigging the last bit of the contraption, James rose and turned to his employer signifying his work was complete. After an inordinately long instruction session, James demanded his pay. The merchant handed James a small baggy that carried enough coin to cover the work. Upon inspection, James noticed that it was, in fact, just pieces of scrap metal set to clank together to sound like coins. As he turned to confront the merchant, the mob chasing the theif had grown extremely large and were passing by all the time. The merchant dissapeared into the mob with most of his wares and the device James had just made for him. Today was not turning out like James had hoped. Now he's stuck in the middle of the distasteful market district and was just basically robbed. Rather than get angry about it all, James just took what the merchant left behind and fenced it somewhere else, as he knew the merchant would get his soon enough. James rigged it so that every third dart would backfire, just incase the merchant did come up short. Now all he had to do was just go get some food and get out of the filth. James walked in front of Stepen's mansion, glanced up and the window, and then walked off. "How did things get like this, old friend." he muttered under his breath as he went to a nearby bakery to get some of the now-rare bread he loved so.

Alex had just left the tavern “The Lucky Wench“. He had negotiated a contract with one of the local merchants to escort a food caravan to the human district. With the recent cave-in, food prices had tripled at the minimum, resulting in more work for any able-bodied person willing to guard storehouses and granaries. Alex wanted a more interesting job and had offered to protect one of the caravans from brigands that were desperate for food. The deal was quite profitable: Alex would be paid 15 credits for each of the 5 wagons that arrived intact when the job was complete plus food for the trip. He had a few hours before he had to report to the caravan master and decided to pick up any last-minute supplies that he might have needed. As he walked out the door, he heard a crash down the road and a voice nearby saying “Please catch that thief.” He looked around and saw a person being pursued by several others. He decided to follow along, anxious to see what kind of excitement would occur. He checked his belongings, making sure that everything was in place and ran after the group.

"I would say this 'perfume' you sell might as well be your own urine," the craftsman with the four finely crafted blades on im uttered to the human in front of him. "except you have clearly used that odour on yourself to prove me wrong."

"It is the best on the whole market, sir, I tell no lie. With the collapse, there just ain't anything better to get even if you were Alzis himself."

The finely dressed Craftsman sighed. "It shall have to do then. What is your price?"

"200 gold pieces, melord."

"I would rather hang myself then accepting you as my servant, nor do I think you understand the honour of the Bladesmith family. 'Craftsman' will suffice as a term of respect. I would say your price is clearly some 'clever' ploy of you to get more gold in your grubby little hands then you would otherwise."

"My... I mean, Craftsman, I'm an honest merchant. Prices are high for everything and I have a family to..."

"I am not interested in your breeding habits human." A bag with gold was tossed to the man. "nor do I plan to spend any more time to converse with you then possible. Consider the extra money you made an alm for me not to have to deal with you longer then necessary." he turned away "oh...and good day to you, try not to hurt yourself making obscene gestures at my back." There was no a hint of anger in the words. Indeed, the craftsman's voice had a melodic, pleasant rin to it the whole tme.

The merchant, who HAD been making gestures suddenly paled. "T...t... thank you craftsman."

Selkinzan walked away, putting the fragile bottle in a pocket in his silk clothes. He wore boots and trousers that seemed modest compared to his vest, yet were still among the finest in the market. At the same time as everyone else, Selkinzan froze in mid step as he heard the voice., arching one finely trimmed green eyebrow and observed how many people followed the thief.

"I know not whether that call was addressed to me, but I do hope not, or I shall have to defend the Bladesmith honour. To treat me as a vulgar thief-cather." The craftsman smiled as he spoke the words.

"But for now, I rejoice that this...place smells slightly better at least, with most the humans and the monsters all chasing some desperate sod." He looked around and his eyes fell on a bakery. "Hmmm, I assume I will HAVE to eat some of the 'local' food if I don't wish to starve, even if both options sound equally pleasant."

With graceful steps the craftsman headed to the bakery and entered, observing another craftsman entering just after him. Despite the man's common clothes Selkinzan smiled. "I see that you had no interest in playing bloodhound either."

"If Stephen needs me, he'll ask me, and it won't be broadcast to the world." James said to the craftsman in the gaudy clothing standing in front of him. "Knowing Stephen, he most likely staged the robbery to test the loyalty of the people. Rebellion is no good during times like these. Now, I must be going." And before the other craftsman could respond, James turned and walked out the door, bread in hand. It wasn't as good as usual, but it was better than most of the wretched food being served nearby anyways. James walked down the street looking at the marketplace in front of him, and started to walk away. Time for a rest. "Tonight should be very interesting, indeed, if my next job turns out." He thought as he wandered off into the distance.

Ghost burst through the window, hit the ground and cursed as his shoulder took the impact. He rolled to the side and jumped up, sensing more than seeing the townsfolk pull out their weapons. It was only a natural sensation when you're someone who knows you're in the wrong.

He darted past the first people who tried to stop him, hurrying through the crowd and hoping no one would have enough time to recognize him. "Stupid stupid stupid . . . " he muttered. "Should've known not all the guards were human." He ducked past a big lizardman, quick reflexes saving his life more than any of his actual skill. "Need time to cast that spell, and I can't get it here." His eyes flitted about, looking for something, anything that could help him. They locked on a small ladder lying against a small shop. He ran and leaped onto the ladder, pulling himself onto the roof with ease. He grabbed the ladder and yanked it up with him.

"Finally, some relief," he said, but he didn't stop moving. He was looking for a way out. His hiding place wouldn't last long. He moaned when he realized there were none. "Shit. Ignonivich, what's so important about this thing that you're willing to get me killed for it?" It was a rhetorical question, and he didn't expect an answer. He sighed, inhaling and exhaling to calm himself. He sat down on the roof and placed his arms together in a position similar to praying. "I can't believe it took me almost an hour to find that safe. I need more practice . . ." He closed his eyes. "An hour is better than all of it," he said.

A few words later, the Ghost had vanished, completely invisible to the naked human eye.

He'd forgotten about lizardmen. Afterwards he'd kick himself for it, but he hadn't had plans for running away with half the neutral sector after his ass. It wasn't really his fault Ignonivich had lied about all the guards being sympathetic to the human sector's side of things.

OOC: Just give the perfect opening, why don't you. Hopefully this is okay with you guys?/OOC

OCC: Its Stephen Alzis, not Stephan Ignonivich. I think we should change one of their names to help clear things up.

Alec didnt really need to worry that much about the cave-in, his methods of recieving money have not been altered as a result. As he was sitting quietly on a roof top looking down on the strees and the merchants trying to push their goods at high prices just to squeeze by there was a scuffle. Alec leaned forward alittle but kept himself in the shadow of the lamp. He saw a man quickly stand up after bursting through a window. The incident had happened down the street from Alecs location and the fleeing thief was running in his direction. Alec kept a close eye on the criminal until he jumped on the ladder and began ascending the very building Alec was on. Without moving or making a noise he watched as the man came up onto the roof and then sat down taking a breathe. He heard him mutter something about a safe and then saw the bag in the thiefs bag. Alec's eyes perked up, he thought two things at that moment.

"Either this guy got all the goods and i could take him out here and now and get it for myself, or i could head back to the crime scene now while people are still out looking for this punk. Eh, if i had been there when he had just broken out, it would have been better, too much time has passed, im better taking out this guy."

As Alec rose and began slowly closing in on the thief he suddenly saw him disappear. Alec dropped to the ground and rolled into a shadow still watching the place where the man had just been, if he had moved Alec would have seen footprints in the dust from the cave-in. Alec smiled, this is exactly the sort of magic he wanted to learn. Alec wanted to know who this person was, maybe he could get something out of it, and not just beat him up and take his loot. Alec gathereed up his nerve and slowly pulled a smoke-bomb out from his jacket. In one quick motion, he pulled out the strip lighting the fuse while throwing it at the place where he had last seen the man. The smoke bomb appeared to have hit something. With that Alec jumped up and moved closer to that location into the cloud of blinding smoke.

"OK, i cant see you, you cant see me, we're even now. Just tell me how you were able to that, and where you learned that? and also where you got that lovely bag from."

Alec stood with his knees bent and on his toes. He pulled out the smaller of the two knives and held it up in there in a defensive postion waiting for the mysterious man to answer.

Ghost grimaced, eyes darting around. 'I can't SEE in this smoke . . .' he thought. He looked around and tried to remember how far it looked from this building to the shop next to it. He began backing up just in case.

He heard the man who threw the smoke bomb ask a question, but he was in plan mode and wasn't paying attention.

'Gotta get out of here and get somewhere safe before anyone else spots me,' he thought. Ghost reached the edge of the smoke. He panicked for a moment, realizing he could be seen with the smoke curling around him, then gulped, eyed the distance, stepped back, and jumped across the gap, landing against the roof with an "Oof!" He kicked up a cloud of dust, but he didn't bother with that as his spell would cover any particles that stuck to him as well. He stuttered out a breath. Then he looked up at the next building, which was an apartment. He'd need more than a ladder for that.

Ghost unhooked the rope attached to his waist and swung it up onto the roof. The hook on the end latched onto something, and he jumped onto the side of the building. He clambered up onto the roof of that building, and paused. 58 minutes left. Every second counted. He jogged to the other side of the building and looked down. One story. Easy. He jumped and began slowly making his way across the rooftops.

OOC: Sorry, S-F, but you aren't the one who's supposed to catch Ghost. Try again later ^^ Nice post, BTW. A good way to start off. /OOC

Alec stood waiting for a reply when he heard a sigh, and then sudden movement. He rushes his way through the cloud of smoke and saw a cloud of dust kick up on the next roof. Alec jumped to that building, but by then all the dust had settled and there was no movement. Alec walked slowly to the far side of the roof and looked down knowing he had lost his persuit. Alec turned around and started making his way back to where the thief had come from, the mansion. If Alec couldnt catch him now, he might as well find out what he had stolen, find out as much as possible about this guy.

As Alec had arrived there were already guards asking questions about what had happened. This of course was rare, most robberies and even most murders go unrecognized, but this, for some reason attracted much attention. Alec began thinking to himself.

"Is this drawing attention because the owner of the mansion has so much money? or is it because of what was stolen. Or perhaps even maybe this thief is a well known criminal who is wanted."

All of these thoughts were rushing through Alecs heas as he looked down on the street from his perch on the roof of an adjacent building. Alec still couldnt fully understand what he had seen, how could turn invisible like that. Alec didnt see him cover himself with anything, how was that possible? Perhaps it was magic, what Alec has always dreamed of possessing.

Hra had hit a dead end. With infrared vision, one body is hard to spot in a crowd... the smoke had provided a hint to where they were, but then made it worse, since the heat signatures were warped by it. By the time the smoke dissipated, it was too late to find the fleeing man.

Mumbling to himself, he uttered a curse, and hissed quietly.

He turned around, looking for any pursuers, especially for one Stephan Alzis if around. With a rather loud and clear voice, he shouted, echoing throughout the marketplace-

'I need everyone to gather here so that I can collect information for the pursuit. I am a lieutenant in the Society of Justice enforcement department, giving me the authority to do so.'

OOC Assume that your characters were there and saw the guy, and that no NPCs did.

Alex walked up to the large lizardman and looked around at the others who had pursued the criminal.
“I’m sorry lieutenant but I didn’t see the thief. I heard the request and saw the chase but I was over by that tavern when it began so I couldn’t see anything. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”
Alex checked that his pack was snug on his shoulders and walked back to the marketplace.

Exliran walks up to the lizardman and tells him all that he saw.
"I hope that the community can help bring this man to justice. Will there be anything more?"

The large guard who addressed the crowd was very large indeed, and intimidated Alec alittle bit, but not to much. This lizardman looks like he might know the most out of everyone on the street. Alec slid down a ladder on the side of the building and walked across the street working his way through the crowd. He walked up and stood directly in front of the large guard.

"You look like a knowledgeable soul, perhaps you could tell me what was stolen here, and perhaps I could tell you if I have seen the criminal."

Alec stood still waiting for a response knowing that the eyes of the entire crowd where now focused on him. He tried to keep his eyes focused only on the guard, and no one else.

Hra replied, slightly irritated at not having caught the man.

'No, I do not know what was stolen, but it was probably something of great value. We should talk to Alzis about it, he seems to be the one stolen from... that is his house, correct?'

I myself am curious as to what was stolen. Do you mind if I come along?
