Heres the scenario. Somewhere in America, a mushroom cloud begins to rise majestically over what was a city a short time ago. As the super-heated plasma rises, a lone figure sits on a grassy hill a good 15 miles away, nonchantly watching the blast. The figure is chewing something and leans against a small backpack.

Other figures, stick-small at first begin to climb the hill to see the destruction. As the closest one draws near, the figure atop the hill smiles and offers something. A wrapped bar of chocolate. Okay. This is the story. Whoever joins in, you start by ariving on top of this hill, and begin telling your story to the group. Its set in our universe... no time-traveling, magic, kit-moding, whatever. Being generous.. this is five years in the future. Whatever has happened, has resulted in this as yet un-named city being nuked. What is written shapes the story, and subsiquent posters must run with it. Try to keep it real, as I said. The nuke was not Kitsune lighting a fart or something lame like that. (Also, its a huge explosion.. say.. 100Mt, so not a terrorist suitcase nuke or dirty bomb. Not saying it can't be a terrorist bomb.. but the warhead would be BIG)

But, anyway.. run wild. First person to post is that person on the hill with a backpack of chocolate. As new people post, they have just arrived, and are presented with their own block of chocolate. The hill itself is clear of nukeage (for now?) and the flash-blind raduis, but if your character is irradiated or blinded, feel free. Anyway, *something* has happened. Its a
blank page, people, crayon in a story.

Clay Allison, advance agent, Federal Emergency Management Agency, looked on emotionlessly as the city of New York crumbled into dust. It wasn't as if he didn't care, it was just like trying to decide which BB Gun to shoot a charging grizzly with. All of his emotions seemed...inapropriate.

He had been on his way into town from Buffalo to look into figures on the potential cost of an oil spill in the NY Harbor. This is not what he had expected.

He had a backpack full of chocolate from his girl-scout nieces in Albany, and a Thermos full of Coffee. This was a hill he had found out about years ago, he came up here every trip to NY, just to see the skyline. A skyline that had changed when the towers had gone, now it was gone completely. And he had to tears to shed, no curses to scream, just chocolate, and coffee.

He turned, smiling as footsteps sounded behind him. Fished in his backpack, and produced a bar of chocolate, extending it to the new arrival.

Wolfie was a traveller. After being in Canada for so long, he finally decided to visit America to see if there was any basis for all the anti-American and anti-Bush jokes he heard from immigrants. He was driving to the city when the bomb went off, and saw the city get flattened. In disbelief, he parked his car by the side of the road and decided to see if this was real. He grabbed his binoculars, ran up a nearby hill and was surprised to see someone already there, watching the distant destruction. Hearing his footsteps, the man turned around and offered Wolfie a bar of chocolate. Unsure of what to do, Wolfie accepted the chocolate and looked through the binoculars to survey the city.

As the pair of people sat on the hill, looking at the ruins of what was once one of the world's great cities, they can see a car driving erratically at high speed towards them. As the car approaches, it swerves off the road, and crashes into a tree.

After about a minute, a bruised and battered human crawls out, bleeding somewhat. As they stare awestruck at him, he limps his way up the hill, arriving before them. His glasses are cracked, he doesn't appear to be able to see because of it. He turns around to survey the wreckage of the city.

'Well I'll be damned... I should've taken driver's ed when I had the chance... at least I made it out of the city.'

He then frowns, and sees that there are other people there gazing at him oddly.

'Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that I wasn't alone up here... oops. It's my glasses, you know, I need them to see. Wonder if anyone made it out... I was here visiting a friend, and when the alarms sounded, I ran until I could find an abandoned car and drive out. Not that I was very good at it, mind you.'

'Is that chocolate?'

Eronarn takes a piece, and chews on it contentedly, watching and waiting for what may come.

A short while later, a white '79 ford pinto rounds the hill and coasts to a stop near the wreckage of Eronarn's car. The driver pounds the steering column and sags forward into his seat. After a few minutes, he tries the ignition, to no avail. Sighing dejectedly, he climbs out of the car and lets an excited golden retriever out of the back. He spends a few seconds conversing with the person in the passenger seat before looking up and noticing that his dog has made a beeline for a group of people sitting on a nearby hill.

As he has nothing better to do in the immediate future, the man walks up the hill and sits down with the rest of the group, watching the ash clouds slowly fall over the twisted ruins of Manhattan.

"Anyone got a light? I need a fuckin' smoke..."

A weak breeze started with a flourish, disrupting the dropzone ashes and spiraling up and around the growing crowd on the hill. Even at such a distance from the leveled city, the grey ash dotted the land, the air blotting away the bright orange sky. Soon enough, another joined their ranks … her face a stark pale hue of disbelief and exhaustion… her long brown hair hanging in every way, rebelling against a semblance of order with more strength than she could find to climb that hill.

Slapping her palms against the dirt, she ascended the hill on all fours… until, at last, the top. And she staggered in place, ignoring the presented bar of chocolate and the line of crusted blood stained on her lip and chin.

"Y-You think they are all dead? She whispered, wavering in place.

She really couldn’t help but think that there was some injustice in annihilating the entire New York population. The Phillies Diner refused to leave her thoughts. The man, the woman, the server buried somewhere in those gusts of ash. The glass front had rattled as the airplanes shot overhead … the tabletop had shined gold when the skyscrapers lit up. The Statue of the Lady. She ate eggs, broken fried, drank coffee and sprinted out of there before the last thunder in the distance.

Just in time. But what was left? She would have to live on that hill.

There aren't any big, sparsely populated hills within view of the city. It's all suburbs and sprawl.

A child appears on the hill, no older than 12, his hands are raw and bleeding. He sees a man holding chocolate. He accepts it without a word, goes to a corner and nibbles on it silently. He doesn't cry, there arn't any tears left. He just sits there, nibbles, and stares.

Silence. Raging and Roaring Silence. She couldn't tell where she was going; her full attention was on getting that infernal ringing out of her head.

A girl not more than 17 approaches the hill in a bee-line. She is bruised and battered with a light bleeding gash on her head. Hands covering ears, patting them from time to time, she walks on gazing neither at sky or earth, looking very much confused and distracted. As the girl nears the steadily growing group, a few take note; many are still lost in their own thoughts.

A hand bearing chocolate is thrust into the girl's line of sight. She stops, startled that she did not hear anyone approach. Not that she paying any attention. The man says something.

"What? I'm sorry, could you speak up? I can't hear very well at the moment." Strange, she couldn't even hear her own words that well. His mouth moves.

"Oh, you must be mute. I'm sorry if I've offended you." The man shakes his head in resignation, the girl mistakes it for forgiveness. The chocolate is offered once more.

"Chocolate? I am a bit hun... gry..." As the girl grasps the bar, feels the blood on her palm.

"Huh? Why is there blood on my hand?" The man motions to his own ear. The girl reaches and touches both ears. Her hands come back a little bloodier.

Her eyes grow wide; the world snaps into focus. Smoke still rising in the distance from the ruins of the city, dissapating clouds that still look unnatural. She remembers... she remembers the first sirens, the panic amongst the populace as news spread. The people on the street trampled by chaos and disorder. She remembers that last horrible time she truly heard something...

... and she faints.

Hopefully someone will catch her...

Clay catches the girl, tears finally finding his eyes, the wall of unreality like a glass wall holding back the ocean, shatters as something real, personal, human is thrust before him.

He picks up the girl and walks back to his humvee, pulling out a medical supply pack and administering first aid.

Her head securely bandaged, he looks for other serious injuries, and, finding none, just sits, holding her, tears streaming down his face. After a while, he walks back up the hill to rejoin the others, carrying the girl, so she could wake among friendly faces.

Wolfie continued to look at the city, scanning the area for any sign that something had survived the blast. After another half hour, he stopped, knowing that his efforts were futile. All that was left was rubble and the remains of the unfortunate souls that were caught in the explosion. He finally realized the magnitude of what he had witnessed. He saw a major American city get destroyed in a single strike, annihilating most of the population along with it. He began to wonder if this was the start of a war when he noticed that there were more people on the hill, including several children. He felt sorry for them, wondering if their families were some of the victims.

The boy sees the girl fall. He doesn't care, doesn't even notice... that is till he sees her face. His mind reels, his thoughts come in a jumble... could she be real, could his sister really have survived!? Wait, no thats not her, he saw her buried by the world, the whole of the earth colapse upon her and mother. The subway, only yards away from the surface, but God it felt like miles! clawing his way from his own grave, he left part of him behind, he left sis. And here is this girl, oh how alike they are. He knows shes not her, somewhere inside him he knows. But he cant bear to look away, for doing so would be to kill her again. He staggers toward her, the man with the chocolate put his hand on the boy's shoulder, a worried look in his eyes. The boy shrugs him off and cradles the girl's head. He wont lose her again no matter what....

A green pickup pulls up near the base of the hill and the driver gets out. He unleashes a medium-sized black dog that has been tied in the bed. The dog runs up the hill to meet the people, but the driver, a young man wearing a blue jacket, a black hat, and blue jeans, walks carefully up. When he reaches the top he leans up against one of the trees and stares at the now dissipating mushroom cloud.
