>_>...
<_<....
.... ok i'm so going to have to kill who ever taught me to do that for one. For two, i'm throwing a couple of new characters into the mix here. They're not quite so random as they appear, just me working out certain kinks and what-not. Mmm, so yea, love and cookies ^_^;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Chiang-shih Lobishomen
Appearance: While Chiang appears to be somewhere in his early to mid twenties in age, the dark bruises under his eyes usually make him seem older. Maybe 5'7" in height, he is far too thin for someone of his stature. He may have no body fat to speak of, but at times it even looks like he had no real muscle either. His black hair is a bit shaggy, falling down to his shoulders, and his eyes look like the color of copper. All in all, his appearance seems haggard, drawn. Almost as if he's gone days without sleeping and the possibility of rest is no where in sight. He usually wears nothing more than some extremely baggy pants held up only by a draw-string belt along with a vest and sandles.
Origin/background: When he was a child, Chiang was orphaned. How and why, he doesn't talk about except to say that he was the only one of his whole family to survive. With a gunshot wound to the shoulder, Chiang was left for dead at the outskirts of a budding Para-forest in the Northwest of North America. In fact, he probably would have died, if it weren't for Professor James Salvador.
The good professor had "set up shop" as it were at the then edge of the Para-forest, hoping to learn about this new curious development. That day he had heard gunshots and, as those were pretty unusual for that region, he went out to see what was going on.
What he found was a young boy close to dying of blood loss.
Chiang was taken in and nursed back to health. As he had no where else to go, Chiang stayed with this man whom he called Professor but, as the years went by, in his heart really meant "Father". James even gifted his adopted son with the name the boy now carries.
As the Para-forest grew, soon their home was engulfed by it. Despite this, they seemed to do relatively fine. They offered each other all the company they needed and Chiang seems to understand how to survive within the forest.
Until the day the Professor fell ill.
Chiang didn't understand what was going on beyond the fact he knew the Professor was unwell. He wanted to help, kept begging to be told what he could do, but all he ever got was: "There's nothing that can be done." Eventually, though, the Professor caved. He told Chiang that there was a place down in California that specializes in what was wrong with him and that they would have the cure. He gave Chiang and address, some directions, and sent him on his way.
And that brings us to the present. At the moment Chiang is heading there in hopes of finding the cure and making the Professor well again.
Personality: To put it into a simple phrase: Chiang's a prick. He's condescending, rude, full of himself, has a superiority complex and basically intolerable to everyone around him. The only person he treats with any sort of decency is the Professor. And for obvious reasons.
Powers: "Wow, you look like you never gain weight!" "Oh, I guess I just have a high metabolism." A high metabolism will burn through energy at a faster rate and Chiang has a metabolism that is through the roof. His body burns through energy at such a tremendous rate that no matter how much he eats, he never seems to gain any weight. He just always seems to be losing it. And he can't sleep, his body just can't lower its energy level enough for it. Because of this he seems to have permanent bruises beneath his eyes.
But this high metabolism isn't without its benefits. He can keep going when most everything else drops out from exhaustion. But more important than that was the reaction this created within his body's cell structure. Since his body can never get enough energy from eating alone, and it cannot sleep, it has essentially turned into a sponge for energy. Whenever he touches something that is living skin-to-skin he begins to absorb that thing's energy. If he doesn't do this, his body will suffer from sever energy loss which includes but isn't limited too fatigue, muscle cramps, breathing trouble, fainting spells, even seizures
Over the years he's learned to control this to a very small extent, mostly with the help of a concoction the Professor made for him that is almost pure ATP (the hormone created in the mitochondrial process to produce energy for the body). This provides him with a boost when he needs it and can keep him, at least for a few hours, from accidentally killing anything by touching it for prolonged periods of time. These are also the only times he can sleep. That…or when he's completely absorbed all the energy from another living being.
Occupation: Doesn't seem to have any occupation to speak of.
Renown: Only one person in the whole world really even knows Chiang exists and he's very very ill at the moment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Thomas Virgil Chauncery
Age: 27
Birthday: February 29th 1988
Appearance: Thom's appearance could only be referred to, at best, as "unusual." He stands at a good 6 and a half feet tall, though it's really uncertain exactly where around there he is, as he never seems to pull out of his constant slouch. Almost everything he wears is overly baggy. A futile attempt to hide the fact that he's practically nothing more than a skeleton with a skin sheathe. More than the abnormal height and unhealthy weight, however, are the burn scars on his face and hands. The splatter pattern of which make them appear to have been made by some sort of burning liquid than any actual fire. He doesn't really ever talk about how he got these scars though. If asked about them, he's more likely to give a cutting retort than a serious answer. In addition to these, he also has green eyes, wears glasses he doesn't actually need, and has mousy brown hair that is actually prematurely going grey at the edges.
Background: Thom was raised in a highly religious family. And by highly religious, I mean his mother was a damn psycho. Catholic to the extreme, she believed that if a child did something wrong then it's punishment would be to sit in a small room under the stairs thatshe had converted into the "Jesus Room". Plastered with pictures of Jesus, and full of idols of the crucifix, it wasn't exactly the happiest room to be in. Especially since most of the pictures depicted Christ crucified. Suffice to say, Thom spent a lot of time in there being told to copy scripture out of the bible. Not as much as Rachel, his big sister, though. She always took the blame for things he did in order to protect him. Despite this, though, the family wasn't that bad off. Thom's mother, Anamaria was a dominating woman who ruled her family with an iron fist. Thom's father, Frank, worked in a factory as a foreman. He was a gruff man who didn't have much of a soft side to speak of, but surprisingly it was Anamaria that had all the power. Frank just couldn't be bothered with things like taking care of the kids or finances. He worked hard enough, damnit. He worked all day and he brought home the money and all he wanted was some fucking time to relax. Let Anamaria take care of everything. That's what she wants to do anyway.
Things were fine up until the year 2000. Mysteriously, Frank died in a freak fire accident at work. He had just finished arguing with some employee who worked a furnace, tell him that he didn't know how to do his job and that he was fired. No one's quite sure how the fire started, but Frank was burned so badly that dental records were just barely even able to be used to identify his corpse.
As odd as Anamaria had seemed before, she really snapped after that, taking solace for her grief in the Bible.
And then the manifestations began.
Thom began touching things and...feeling things from them. Sporatically at first, weak. But slowly it began to build. Every time this happened, his mother would be sick for the rest of the day with a migraine. As time went on, she began muttering to herself, talking about how there were evil forces at work.
All growing up, Rachel took the wrap for Thom. This was no exception. when Anamaria finally snapped she came to Thom and Rachel, asking them if they knew about what was going on. As things happened to him, Thom had been sharing them with Rachel, as he was scared and she was the only one he could ever trust. Rachel knew that if she let Thom speak up, something worse than just time in the Jesus Room would happen. She stepped forward to defend Thom.
The rest was a nightmare that Thom spends the rest of his life wanting to forget. The cops saved his life just in time, but not in time to save his sister. Turns out his mother was becoming a para too, like Thom. Only she was a seeker. One who can feel the powers and energies of other paras. In her madness and ignorance, she didn't understand what was going on and thought that the energies she was feeling were the presence of Satan. She was determined she would purge out the evil.
After a long drawn out court battle, Anamaria was sentenced to life in a prison mental ward. Thom spent the rest of his years until the age of his majority as a foster child. He never stayed with a family more than a few months. None of them wanted to keep him. He was too freakish, knew too much. In the end, Thom gave up on thinking people would ever want him around.
When he hit his majority, his job resume became like his foster home record. No one wanted to keep him hired on. He was just too freakish, too abrasive. Too honest. He ended up traveling constantly.
When he was 25 he actually got into a relationship with a woman for a while. It didn't pan out, but it lasted longer than just about anything else in his life, carrying him almost to present day. Close to two years. After the breakup, Thom decided he needed a total chance of scene and moved to Australia.
Personality: Anywhere ranging from just annoying to outright abrasive, Thom isn't exactly a people person. He has a contempt for just about everyone around him. Due to his unusual gifts, he ends up usually seeing the worst in people. It's made him all jaded. Along with being a general ass, Thom's also totally neurotic. He suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder, paranoia, hypochondria, insomnia, and takes a shit load of pills he really doesn't need. The pills, like his glasses, are his vain attempt to run away from his gifts. Just like his asshole-ish attitude is to keep people from getting close.
Powers: Thom is a Touch-know. Someone capable of touching an object and, depending the intensity with which it was owned, can feel emotions thoughts, and sometimes even see the past through them. He relives these things as if they were happening to him. It's even more powerful when he touched an actual person. An object is a receptacle for energy, but a person is livid with it all the time. If they have a prevalent memory or feeling, touching them will transfer it to him. Sometimes even more. More than anything, though, touching a person will fill him with their "psychic scent" of sorts. His mind is suddenly filled with a bright map of light. The deeper the connection with the person, the brighter the lights get. He's then compelled to follow these lights and find them all. It's in this way that he'd able to find a person's "lost" objects with such efficiency. Due to all the traveling he ends up having to do for this job, however, he has an insanely large asking price. It's for that reason as well as he needs some sort of back up for when he gets fired...yet again.
Occupation: He's basically a Jack of all Trades in a sense. He's worked many jobs. All of them involving as little contact with other people as possible. He doesn't seem to ever keep a job for very long. It must be his endearing personality. Beyond that, Thom runs a sort of underground business. "Looking for lost or stolen items that just can't seem to be found? Chance Discoveries. (832) 713-3142" White flyers, simple black type. No pictures, no frills, nothing to draw the eye. Ordinary in just about every way. But these flyers are handed out with a hushed tone among the underground. No one knows who runs the business. Only that the man who answers the phone's an asshole, that they always ask for something really odd like a personal article of clothing being sent to a certain non-disclosed address, and that they some how always manage to deliver.
Renown: while his "business" is talked about secretively among people who need something and have no other alternative, Thom himself has no renown. Unless you call a fair number of people thinking he's an asshole renown.
