The night was beautiful. The celestial stars of the sky shimmered above and were mirrored by the lights of the streets below. On the top of the building a nearly formless figure stood, watching the activities of the nightlife below. Only the wind heard his ramblings.

“We are tired of the company and wish it to stop growing; however we seem to still be slaves to ourselves and cannot help but to make ourselves grow. We then need a body weak of faith that will not raise our ire, thus making it possible to subdue and maintain ourselves. The longer we wait, the harder it gets. We must move soon, and we are in agreement. Thus we choose… her!”

The rose up and as he did so, shadows seemed to merge with him making what was left of his features to disappear as he merged with his cloak and jumped off the building. The patchwork cloak seemed to glide in the air for a few moments and then dived towards the streets below.

There was no sound when it landed, and there was no sign from the young woman that she felt any fear, despite walking through a dark ally. Despite her attempts to hide it, the dark creature knew of the mace she held in her hand, he could see the light color of fear radiate off her body, He could hear her pulse, and for a moment he almost thought he could feel the heat radiating off of her body. The whispers in side of him urged him on, called for him to satisfy his eternal lust. He silently closed in behind her.

Get her, feed on her, kill her, make us more, make her like us. Be silent, we need not your influence demon.

She didn’t have time to react as he pulled her head to the side, exposed her neck, sunk his teeth into her, felt the blood. The moment lasted an eternity. He felt her shudder as she lost herself to the embrace, he felt her skin tighten into goose bumps in reaction to his chilled skin, he felt the small resistance of her skin against his teeth before the rush. He felt the white hot blood fill his mouth, go down his throat, fill his guts. He sensed her life force fading, he didn’t care, he drank on, he felt the need…

He fought the need, the need was what cursed him, the need is evil, the need should never be fulfilled. He almost tore his head away, only pausing long enough to seal the wound with his tongue. He nearly cried out when he pulled his head back. He watched as the woman fell to the ground. He knelt down and searched her pockets. Forty dollars in cash. He left the jewelry. No sense in taking what might be important to her. He had what he needed. A few seconds later, he had climbed the wall. He sat there, letting the shadows surround him. He waited till she got up, protecting her from others that might prey on the weak.

“We thank you for your sacrifice, and we wish Gaia to bless you, even though we be cursed.”

Meanwhile, in his house, Stephen Crane was staring at his computer screen, as he listened to the Imperial March he had playing in the background. He surfed the Internet as he waited for his programs to break into the accounts of Westpac Bank. Pedophiles has widespread networks, and he was planning on bringing this one down. He suspected they were being funded by someone rich, but he needed to trace the money trail to find out for sure. He raised the bottle of Mountain Dew on his desk to his lips, only to discover it empty.

So, he got up and wandered into the kitchen of his apartment. It wasn't very big, but it was cheap, and he spent all of his life on the computer anyway. It wasn't like he needed the room. He just thanked God that he had enough money from his freelancing that he didn't need to have a roommate. He got the kitchen, and pulled another bottle of soft drink out of the fridge. He hesitated for a moment, then grabbed a peice of last night's pizza as well, scarfing it down as he returned to his computer. Mmm... cold pizza is the best pizza.

So, sitting down, he noticed his online girlfreind was online. Firing up the webcam program they used, he checked a webcomic he read as he waited for her to accept the conversation.
