James had just finished his shopping when the screaming started. Pulling on his new jacket, he ran from the store. He saw Zara floating in midair, shrouded by a nimbus of light. Rentacops were firing at him, but none of the shells were getting within two meters of the mutant. Still, the law of averages dictated that he'd get hit eventually. He moved soundlessly behind the nearest guard and broke his neck.

Another guard saw him, spun and shouted. He tracked the guard's arm, saw where it stopped. He ducked below the bullet's path before it was even fired, charged. Clawlike nails tore out the rentacop's throat. A pair of guards drew on him now, but were taken out by a pair of spikes that flew in from on high. Glancing up, Nightmare saw one of the other mutants, Guy, standing atop a giant insect, then saw that insect shot to peices. Nightmare charged the three guards responsible, tore out two throats and broke a neck. The last of them had managed to clock him with his nightstick, and his head was pounding. But he was alive.

Guy was perched atop another bug, and Zara was reading aloud from some book. Odd. I thought he couldn't speak. Starting for the enterance, James saw a number of his fellow mutants doing likewise. The damage was impressive and there was debris scattered everywhere. Their cover was well and truly blown now. All that was left was to escape.

OOC: Ok..lot of posting. Time for me to get back into the thick of things and get current. Oh, and I hope Wolf doesn’t mind me using Andy. I hope I’m getting it right. Let me know if I’m wrong somewhere and I’ll change it. **EDIT** Fixed. Thanks for the update, Wolf.

IC: Max concentrated on driving while noticing how ‘cozy’ Morrie and Harry had become literally overnight. He felt what he could only call a pang of jealousy but shoved it aside as childish. Besides, he never told her anything to make her think that he wanted her.

I’ve got to keep my head on straight. Hell knows that the shit’ll hit the fan sooner or later while we’re there with these bunch of secluded shut-ins. Ok..this must be it.

Max pulled the Hummer in and noticed that Zara and Chaos looked to be hanging back while the others seem to almost leap at going inside this massive glassed complex. As he followed the others in, he noticed how much they seemed to blend in, yet stick out like sore thumbs. He saw everyone go to his or her respective places of interest and noticed Claire heading towards the House of Knives. Max held off from her and stuck with Andy who was heading there as well to do what he could with his abilities. He saw him take a swig of some green slush from a juice bar and the owner getting all pissed. Pulling out a couple dollar bills, Max slammed them down on the counter and walks off with Andy.

“Look I know the music sucks, it hurts my head too. Elevator shit makes me wanna puke, but just tough it out. I’m sure with Zara around here that things are gonna act up. That’s why I’d like for you to work on that collapsible Scythe. I’m sure we’re not gonna get out of here without some bloodshed.”

Andy seemed to nod in agreement, albeit pained, and goes into the store as Claire leaves with her Zatochi. Max sees the look in the eyes of the Clerk of someone who’s mind wasn’t exactly in the Here and Now.

“Obviously Claire’s work. Hold on a sec, Andy.”

Max jumps over the counter while his right arm turns into a tentacle that is rammed down the clerk’s throat, afterwards drags the barely alive body to the back and out of sight of anyone walking by. Turning his tentacle back into an arm, he reaches up for a couple good swords and some extra metal to help with the handle and puts them down on the table for Andy to do his work. Standing back, he marvels as this guy that only yesterday he tried to kill was working on creating his favorite weapon. As people start to notice this, some flee in sheer terror. Others think they're tripping and find it cool. Still others are trying to contact some Security Guards as part of their Civic Duty to expose anyone that seemed 'abnormal.' The ingredients seemed to lose their cohesion and merge together into a Metallic Fluid or almost like Play-doh for kids, allowing Andy to reshape it into anything he saw fit. Finally, a single shape was visible.

In its place was a Scythe some 5 feet tall and a blade some 3 feet long. The blade tinted on a bluish hue as it curved down to a razor-sharp point. The handle itself was ramrod straight but for a little part at the end of the staff that kicked in the opposite direction of the blade. Looking closely, there seemed to be some etching on the 'business end' to help accentuate the leading edge with some writing in Rune that when translated said, ‘May This Blade Never Dull, Chip or Shatter’ on the other edge. Andy seemed a bit tired afterwards as Max hefted the weapon then collapsed it to see how small it would get. Seeing that it could fit behind his back, he unfolded it and did some practice with it. Feeling satisfied, he collapsed it back down and went up to Andy, who by this time had started recuperating with the help of the Lime drink.

“Andy, this really kicks ass. Thank you. The Runes were a nice touch, didn’t know you had knowledge of a dead language.”

A: “There’s much you don’t know about me. As long as it meets up with your approval, it’s all that matters.”

Max then hears a commotion coming from the Main Concourse.

“Looks like it’s started. I’ll leave you here to rest up then come out when you’re ready.”

Leaving the House of Knives, he sees the music outside had changed from the Elevator music to something more to the liking of most brooding people. Max then spots Zara all lit up in a aura. Running up to him, Max is trying to get his attention.

“Hey, should we really be doing this here? Hey Zara? Can you hear me?”

Suddenly, Zara changes his aura and starts speaking for the first time since they left Skinner. He reads from some book and creates quite a spectacle. Guy then gets into the act by releasing some Hornets, which go after the guards and kills them as they try to fire their guns at the apparitions. After taking care of most of them, Max hangs to the left of Zara on the ground as the Butterfly he saw Guy on yesterday from the Hummer unfurl its wings, throwing a kaleidoscope of colors around the wide eyed-mouth agape crowd.

“Something tells me this wasn’t any of your ideas for a ‘Sunrise Festival’ huh?”

Max pulled out his new Scythe and unfolded it, letting it add to the color while reflecting much of the light around.

“Well, if this shit’s gonna happen, then I’ll at least be ready to go. So now what’s next?”

This one is the True Leader. He has to be. Chaos worked with him, but this one has something about him that tells me he trumps Chaos. This should be fun.

Harry slid effortlessly through the crowd, following Morrie unobserved, giving her space but not allowing her to slip out of the extended range of his 10-12 senses (depending on how you count).

Yes, she is definitely running, but to where, and from whom? Is it from me? Or is it the others? Does she have a plan? I will follow. This is a dangerous place, and she may need help.

As Andy proceeded to the third floor, he saw a bright flash of light come from the 1st floor in the middle of the open space. What the hell? Oh for God’s sake, how the fuck is this keeping a low profile?! I swear these people can be real idiots at times. But who can blame them? Anyone would lose touch with common sense after being locked away for say… 5 years. He felt envious, knowing that soon his comrades would be caught and able to fully vent their frustrations on the world while he was trapped, forced to stay silent and watch from the side while he worked. Focus damn it! You’ll get your chance soon enough. At least the music finally changed to something better. He resigned himself to his job, knowing that it was one of the few reasons he was still alive and not left behind with the wreckage of the house. His head throbbed as panicked crowds seemed to flood the main routes, screaming and crying for help. He managed to make it to the House of Knives in one piece and found it empty except for the staff. Once inside he could see a myriad of blades on display in glass cabinets along the walls. Not even checking if anyone had followed him, he grabbed a katana off a display stand and without unsheathing it, smashed all the cases he could reach.

“HEY! What the hell’s wrong with you?!”

Andy quietly replied while smashing more cases. “You know, I could answer that but I don’t think either of us would have the time or care enough to listen.” He turned his back to the clerk and continued to methodically break open more displays. From each shattered shelf and rack, he grabbed the biggest blades he found and tossed them to a growing pile in the middle of the store. He was so immersed in his job that he didn’t notice Max take care of the clerk and help with building the pile. Convinced that he had enough raw materials to work with, he stopped the destruction and sat down in front of the blades. He placed his hands in the heap and cut them, but he didn’t notice. He could feel all the elements of the steel. Iron and carbon. The mixes are a bit off though. I’ll have to change that before shaping. Chromium, useless. I don’t think anyone cares about rust-proofing. Trace elements, aluminum, nickel. All with their uses. Almost reminds me of that text the scientists showed me… Anyway, time to work.

He looked behind him and saw Max, the one who nearly killed him before. And he’d probably do it again in a heartbeat. I can’t screw this one up. What did he want again? Oh right. He focused, exerting his will on the metals before him. At his hands, the metal liquefied into a long rod about 2 meters long. With more concentration, this rod split off a smaller rod that shined like a polished mirror. There goes the chromium, now to fix the mixture. He manipulated the component metals, absorbing and disposing the components as needed until he found an acceptable balance. Good, this should do for now. Now for the easy part. With a few thoughts, the rod seemed to shape itself, as if it was poured into a mold. A blade sprang from the top of the shifting rod as the steel began to take the shape of a scythe. Without any signs, the liquid metal seemed to harden as Andy picked it up. The finishing touches were made and Andy passed the weapon to Max. God, I hope this worked. While all of this was happening, some of the mall patrons took notice of the strange feat and panicked, stared, or contacted security.

“Andy, this really kicks ass. Thank you. The Runes were a nice touch, didn’t know you had knowledge of a dead language.”

“There’s much you don’t know about me. As long as it meets up with your approval, it’s all that matters.”

They could hear a ruckus coming back from the open space at the entrance.

“Looks like it’s started. I’ll leave you here to rest up then come out when you’re ready.”

Great. He looked back to the pile of weapons on the floor and sighed. Damn, I should have asked the writer to make me a list or something. I don’t remember any of those orders. Well, I guess I can make generic blades and refine them later. Looking down at his hands, he finally noticed the lines of blood on them. Oh damn it. He grabbed some of the cloth bindings from the spent weapons and wrapped his palms. He sat back in front of the pile and started again, this time making a giant block of alloy before he would start shaping it into the blades everyone needed. He was so engrossed in his task that he didn’t notice the security team approaching the store.

Run run run run run, where are you going? Don't you know running is all you can do to stay in the same place? Stop running since all you do is stand still anyway . . .

A million shafts of light shone down on the mall, freezing the shock of the crowd in a multicolored, horrified explosion. Morrie spun around, bewildered, to see Zarathustra standing in midair, reading out of a book, a huge insect floating above him. The sight hit her like a suckerpunch, driving the air out of her lungs and forcing her to the floor. Crumpled up on the floor, all she could see were the feet of the hundreds of shoppers as they ran in every direction but towards Zarathustra.

All so aimless . . . so confused . . . so frightened . . . what have they to hope for, but that they might find something to give them purpose before they die? Look at them . . . they are cold, all of them, frozen in their normal lives. So obsessed with other people they scarcely have time to be themselves. Don't you want more than them? Don't you want your own life? Don't you want your own face?

I don't understand . . . help me, somebody, someone . . . I want to get away . . . Why would I want my life, when all it has been is pain? All I have is loss. Nothing. Please, someone, help me . . . I want to own . . . I want more. That's all I ask. Please . . . help me . . .

Morrie lay there, unseeing. People ran past her, ran around her. Someone who wasn't paying attention accidentally kicked her in the ribs.

What?

Morrighen leaped to her feet, kicking the offender away from her. Looking around, she snarled. Weak. No faces worth taking here. She heard music, and whipped towards the CD player. Here were faces . . . no. They were not hers. She would look elsewhere.

She was jostled from behind. She lashed out, fingernails slicing across the man's jugular without a pause. Blood trickled down his throat, and he slipped to the floor. It happened too fast for anyone to notice. Morrighen snarled, wiping her fingers on her jeans, leaving dark smears on the faded black denim. Something shining caught her eye. She turned to see a sign that read "House of Knives." She regarded it for a few moments, trying to remember what that meant to her.

Slice away, slice away. Find the face beneath the skin.

Morrighen crawled up someone's shoulders and kicked off sharply, leaping into the air. The woman she used for extra push fell to the floor, her collarbone broken. Morrighen crashed down in front of the "House of Knives," knocking an old man to the floor. He didn't get up. She smashed through one of the windows and grabbed a long, thin kitchen knife.

“Too many faces,” Morrighen said. “Too much confusion.” She looked up to the ceiling, where two speakers hung side by side, blasting the song from within. Morrighen stared at the speakers, and her face died. All that was her vanished, leaving nothing but empty wishes behind. Her eyes closed. The music pulsed, then the speakers screeched feedback and exploded outwards and down. The ceiling shook, plaster and cement rained down on the crowd, and what was left of the speakers crashed to the mall floor.

The sound in the mall was lessened a bit by the loss of the speakers. Not enough to dim Zarathustra’s fierce glow.

Morrighen came back to herself, and a smile split her face in two. “Now they have purpose,” she breathed. “Now to find my face.” She dove into the crowd. A teenager fell to the floor, the kitchen knife embedded in his throat. Morrighen paused to pull the blade out, then leaped onto a security guard that had noticed her. Snarling, she drove the sharp edge into his forehead. He fell over from her weight, stunned himself. Morrighen cut through to the brain, splitting the halves. “Bastard,” she said, voice barely above a whisper. “You won’t get me.” She looked around at the horrified faces and smiled. She jumped onto another teenage boy who looked like he might muster up the courage to face her. He stumbled to the ground. Morrighen lifted her head up and slammed her head into the boy’s. She bit off his nose and chewed it for a while, then spat it away. She finished by stabbing the boy in the chest with the knife.

“No faces?” Morrighen said, growling and pulling the knife out. “I’ll kill them all, that will settle this once and for all—” Someone grabbed her knife hand from behind. Morrighen spun around, hand raised to claw the offender. She was pushed to the ground roughly.

“Morrie, you must stop this,” Harry said.

“Let me go,” Morrighen said.

“Morrie, I must ask you to stop struggling. You might be hurt,” Harry said.

“Leave me alone,” Morrighen said.

Harry leaned closer. “I told I would protect you. I will do so, even if I must protect you from yourself.”

Morrighen screamed and kicked at Harry. “LET ME GO!”

“I will not.” Harry gripped Morrighen’s wrists, establishing a connection, bleeding in some of his own control while blotting out her fear and pain.

“Let me—” Morrie let out a breath she’d been holding in and stared up into Harry’s eyes.

Harry’s green eyes distantly smiled down at her. “I told you I would protect you,” he said.

“What?” Morrie said. She looked around and saw the mauled boy besides her. “Oh God.” Her throat seized.

Harry felt her disgust well up inside and broke the connection, letting her get up. When she was done retching, he helped her stand up. “Are you okay?” he said.

“No,” Morrie said. “I don’t think I could be if I tried.” She glanced up at the exploded speakers, then at Zarathustra. “I’m frightened.” And against all sense, she thought, I hope that doesn’t sound too corny.

Harry put his hand in hers, and she clutched it tightly.

The three guards were watching the cameras a few minutes earlier when they saw the chaos created at the entrance on the screens. They could hardly believe their eyes as some being tossed around the nearby guards like paper. They received a call from the House of Knives. The guy sounded hysterical, like the world was coming to an end. Once they got there, they understood why. They saw Andy sitting on the ground, creating a solid block of steel from the assorted blades in front of him. One of them just stared in disbelief while the other two pulled out their clubs.

“Damn another one of those freaks. Ok boys, we take him down, no questions. Hit him hard and fast while he’s not looking. Damn it Luke, wake up! We have to protect these people from mutants like him so stop staring and get your club out.”

They crept up quietly, making sure to stay out of Andy’s line of sight. Once they were inside the store two of them rushed him while Luke stayed back frozen in place. Before he could see what was happening, Andy was cracked over the head with a heavy baton and knocked down before getting kicked in the ribs. He hit the floor beside the block and struggled to breathe as they continued their assault. He took another kick to the ribs when he could hear one of the guards.

“Fucking freak of nature. You don’t deserve to live.”

/* Apocalyptica - Drive */

Something inside of Andy snapped. He rolled to the side and slapped the block of steel with both hands. A few dozen thick needles shot out of the block and skewered one of the guards through the whole body from the knees up, freezing a look of shock and disbelief on his face. They withdrew quickly, leaving short trails of blood from every hole as it clung to the needles. At the same time, the block of steel liquefied around his hands and crawled up his arms, creating a second skin. He rose up from the ground slowly and once he was back on his feet, he rushed in on the second guard, who was still surprised at his partner’s sudden death. As he punched at the chest, the metal flowed and formed a massive drill bit, allowing his punch to rip through the skin and burrow into the man’s chest. Andy looked up at the guard with blank eyes and smiled a malevolent grin, while his face seemed to twitch slightly. He channeled his power into the steel and hundreds of barbed needles shot outward, ripping through the man’s torso and creating a cloud of blood. By the time Luke could see again, all he saw was Andy standing over his friend’s legs, with a spiked sphere of steel where his right hand should be.

“Demon…” Luke pulled his gun and fired wildly at Andy. Andy thrust his arms toward the guard and the steel flowed from his arms and focused at his hands, forming a barrier in front of him. The bullets were harmlessly stopped by the shield as Andy was pushed backwards from the repeated impacts. Soon, the two of them only heard a frantic clicking as the gun ran out of bullets. The shield melted down and the excess metal covered his arms once again. Luke fell against the wall and kept pulling the trigger, somehow hoping that something would happen to rid himself of this beast in front of him. Andy pointed his left arm at Luke and a lance flowed out and pierced into him, breaking his ribs and puncturing a lung. Andy closed the distance between them, slowly shrinking the lance until he was sitting on Luke’s chest. Luke looked up at Andy, begging for mercy. Andy merely smiled evilly again and hardened the steel on his right hand before pummeling the guard’s head. Yells and sobbing could be heard as Andy continued his beating, until his hand crushed the man’s skull, spewing fluids in a pool below what was left of the head. Andy got up and walked outside of the store, looking around while blood still dripped from both steel coated hands. He could hear music in the air and he bounded towards it, leaving a red trail behind him.

And all of the good parking spaces are taken. Just my luck. Chaos pulled into the mall and turned off his car. At the edge of his range (Another 3 inches, what is going on?) he could see that there was a large party, and that a few of his companions were already inside. Without a word Zarathustra and Chaos walked into the mall. As music began to play, Chaos noted everyone going of to entertain themselves in there own way when he saw something that took all other thoughts out of his mind.
A man, or rather a image of a man, walked through the mall, carrying a bag. What was odd about him was that at first Chaos did not note anything wrong with him, even though he lacked internal organs. He never missed stuff like that. The obvious answer was. A rouge mutant. I knew they existed, but chances of meeting one this close to the now dead sanitarium is pretty damned slim. But I seem to remember something about the files saying that mutants had something to do with the same probability mechanics that were fucking up the outside world. I’ll take a look into it...
At the same time as these thoughts ran through his mind, a second series of observations and thoughts processed.
In the hands of the not-quite-a-man was a bag containing items that caught Chaos’ interest almost as much as the person holding the bag. A complete box set of Apocalyptica, with sheet music. Other CDs I like.. A lot... There is a live band playing. I would suspect a trap if.. The doppelganger looked right at Zarathustra and Chaos, dropped the bag then left.. And faded away... As if he were no longer needed. This is indeed another mutant at work here. Best not to waste that gift.

***Three minutes later***

He waited until Clairehad finished her song.

“Claire, I need a huge favour. Take a look at this book, I would like you to play all of this. All of it, starting on the third song, and do not stop for anything. I need this, Claire. I need it as much as Zarathustra needs violence, and Max Nightmare needs to feed.”
Claire, a little taken aback by Chaos’ insistence, complied. “No problem Chaos. If you need it that much...”
“I do.”

Chaos walked over to the sound board and cranked the volume, added extra speakers, so when the first piano notes of the song fired of, for one moment it sounded as if God himself had come down to play piano for this one perfect moment. .

***Cue: Faraway- Apocalyptica***

Oh God. Better then sex, better then all of the sins on earth, is the sweet sound of music after years of that mindfucking game with those Skinner bastards. Though sex wouldn’t be frowned upon at this moment either. Enjoy what you got Da-Chaos.

Outside of his head, Chaos stood there, apparently catatonic while the music played. Inside his head, for one of the few times in his life, the music was the only thing he thought about. It was orgasmic.

Claire noted that under the blindingly bright light that Zara was giving off, Chaos also was shooting out an aura of his own. She also felt the joy radiating off of Chaos. She likened it to sitting in front of a campfire.

Chaos only opened his eyes as the last noted faded, and he prepared for the next song to start. I love this CD.

/* Apocalyptica - Somewhere Around Nothing */

But then he noted that Zara was making a bit to much of a scene. It’s too soon, I don’t want a scene now. It’s too soon. What the hell is he doing?

Chaos started walking over to Zara. Every step made Chaos’ anger rise even more. ‘WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING!!!”

I’m enjoying myself.

“IT’S TOO FUCKING SOON. NOW WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE NOW!!!

No.

“What?”

As I said earlier, we must not hide like rats. The time to come forward is now.

“And I do not agree. So you go ahead and basically say ‘Fuck you, and your opinions .’”

I'm tired of you trying to control all of us, Chaos. Stop preventing the inevitable. It's time for us to truly live our lives the way we've always wanted to.

“Running from the FBI and Nukes? You saw... wait you didn’t see what they did to the sanitarium when they got wind of our freedom. The place is not a pile of black glass. These guys are serious bad news. I’m not wanting to go against one of the largest governments in the world. Your not thinking things through, Zara.”

You're the one who's not thinking, Chaos. You're simply paralysed by fear. We should not be afraid of the government. The government should be afraid of us. And they are, Chaos. They are. If they weren't, they wouldn't have risked using a nuke, on their own land no less. Did you see what that girl just did now, with the speakers? What if she did that to the entire American military arsenal? I told you: we can't survive in this society. And if the only way to escape it is to fight it head-on, I'd rather risk a real death than five more years of living death in some godforsaken prison posing as a hospital.
“I no more want to be imprisoned than you. You however are being one sided. It’s irrational to not take the middle path. Your going off half cocked. You have no clue as to what the results of your action will be.”

I'm not being irrational, Chaos. You're just being stubborn and controlling. If I wanted to be ordered around like this, I'd have let them ship me off to die in some meaningless battle.” Zara lashed out, hitting Chaos full on the face. “I've had it with your silly little attempt to play general.”

“I see,” Chaos staggered to his feet. “Words don’t matter then.”

“No.”

Zara leapt into the air, and two tables lazily revolved around him. Chaos leapt onto one of the table and was carried to the second floor. Zara saw Chaos and attempted to smash Chaos between the table and the floor, but Chaos was already in the air, jumping towards the airborne Zarathustra. Chaos latched onto Zara’s leg, and swung upwards, kicking Zara in the stomach. Doubling over, Zara slowly drifted to the ground, as Chaos swung off and landed a few metres away from Zara. Then it felt like there was a vice grip on Chaos’ neck. Zara’s going for a kill. A split second later, Zara felt everything below his neck seize up and refuse to move, Zara also felt his heart start to fail. Through pure desperation, Chaos was able to have a quick mental exchange with Zarathustra. Mutualdestructionasuredundesirableamusmentchallengebest... agreed.
The vice grip and the paralysing attack both ended. But the fight did not. Every single free table in the mall rose into the air and flew right towards Chaos, The next 30 seconds were a blur of wood and a dodging figure amongst the tornado. Chaos knew at that point he was outclassed, he felt a sharp pain as a table dislocated his shoulder. Seconds later, Chaos had hit the floor, jamming the bone back into it’s socket. Then he saw a possible opening.

All Zara saw was a streak shoot out of the mayhem of wood and steel, and stars as he was thrown backward by the force of Chaos’s blow, A leg wrapping around his neck dragging his face down into the floor. Zara punched back, missing, but cracking the stone on the floor where Chaos had been, then Zara got a kick to the head. Now that the surprise of the initial attack was over, Zara was able to block more and more blows more and more blows, until Zara landed an uppercut that sent Chaos flying.

Chaos landed in the fountain. A table started to fly towards the fountain Chaos was barely able to stagger to his feet and get out of the way of the improvised projectile. He landed just outside of the water’s edge and rolled. Behind him 3 more tables smashed into the ground. Chaos stood up and turned to face Zara, as the song from the band rounded to a close.

Your move.

The steel blade sliced through the air, cutting the woman’s throat cleanly. A red line appeared after the blade, leaking blood down her neck and soaking into her shirt. She fell to her knees, clutching at her throat in a vain attempt to keep it all inside. Andy watched this with a feeling that closely resembled satisfaction. A flick of the wrist and two thin blades sprang out, separating the woman’s hands at the wrists. As she stared at the stumps, Andy pulled back his right hand and made a hard backhanded slash. The metal flowed outward in mid-swing, forming a heavy sword around Andy’s hand. The blow took the woman’s head clean off her shoulders, sending it rebounding off the wall, close to her son.

Andy looked to the boy. He was only 12, about the same age as Andy was when he was taken. Though only a child, he still stared back at Andy with some measure of defiance and anger. This look was erased as a jagged pillar of steel crashed through his face and into the wall past him. Andy walked up to him, withdrawing the steel back onto his arm. The boy was in shock, but still alive, watching Andy with his remaining eye. As he approached, he formed a claw around his left hand and a heavy drill on his right. The claw clamped around the boy’s neck, choking off his air and screams while the drill slowly burrowed though the ribs. Once past the bones, it opened and Andy’s steel coated hand grabbed the kid’s heart. He looked up at the kid and grinned again. The boy’s outward strength crumbled and he cried as several needles came out of Andy’s hand and tore through the heart. He released the boy and flicked the blood off his hands while searching for more targets. He heard the music once more and continued on his way.

His progress was slowed by the heavy steel on his arms, but at this time he wouldn’t have cast it off if his life depended on it. It wasn’t just a tool anymore. It seemed like an extension of his body, since it was affected by his will. No longer did he have to concentrate to change something. It was almost like moving his arm, taking little to no conscious thought. Had any of the scientists been alive to see this, they would have remarked on the significant increase in Andy’s power. Normally, Andy had been restricted in how much he could shift at once, but his ability seemed to have changed, along with his state of mind. Before, Andy had understood that his rage had been a significant problem and would have probably resulted in his death. However, his present state of mind was far from sane, being quite close to berserk.

There seemed to be fewer stragglers as Andy got closer to the music, but he still ripped through everyone he encountered. He approached an open area where he could see the floor below when he noticed some movement to his right. He twisted and raised his hands to attack and a bar of steel erupted from his arm, destroying a section of wall before receding back. He looked about and saw a pale man dressed mostly in black standing near the impact point. His red eyes stared right at Andy, though in fury or cool control was something he couldn’t determine. He felt a familiarity towards this man, but he couldn’t place where or how. But it didn’t matter anymore. Either way, he’d be destroyed…

Nightmare glared at Andy. The younger, smaller para was cutting a bloody swathe through the crowd, with all the grace of a doberman and the sublty of a bull. Nightmare tried to cap the rage welling up within him, rage at the waste he was seeing. He was a hunter. He killed only for sustenance or in defence. Never for sport. Andy was destroying a great quantity of food, for no reason apparant to the near-vampire.

The bastard had nearly gotten them all killed before, at the service station. His pleas had bought him amnesty, but now he had betrayed their trust. He was not making any distinction about his targets, meerly lashing out. If left unchecked, it would only be a matter of time before he harmed one of the group. A small voice in his head wondered why he particularly cared about anyone in this group, why he was not leaving them behind. But it was pushed out of his consious. Now to battle.

Andy turned towards him, crimson-stained arm blades constantly shifting form, pulsing just slightly longer and shorter in time with an accelerated heartbeat. Their gazes locked for mere moments, Nightmare tried to establish some sort of hold. Until about five minutes before, he would have bet anything that he could defeat the younger and smaller para in a close-in fight. With those wicked looking blades, however, the young one might have an advantage.

Andy's mind seemed protected by a shell of rage, by an anger he could not penetrate. Nightmare growled, then charged, roaring a battlecry. Andy barely shifted his stance, and both blades grew, becoming long and thin spears, nearly ten feet in lenght, and only his incredible reflexes saved Nightmare from skewering himself upon them. He dove and rolled under the stabbing spears, came up inches from the other para. Claws sought throat, but never connected.

Faster than he would have believed possible, Andy's right armblade had shrank down, become a round shield. Nightmare's claws struck sparks against the disk of steel, then stuck fast as it reformed, flowing around his outstretched hand. The other arm blade caught his left hand, started doing the same. Nightmare let Andy's blades hold him, placed both feet against the smaller mutant's chest, and shoved away. His right hand, held only be liquid, slipped free. His left was stuck fast, wrapped in steel bars.

Nightmare's strength would be all that could save him now. As Andy's free hand formed into a killing blade, he planted his feet, siezed the arm restraining his own, and lifted the other man. Spinning, he slammed Andy into a storefront window, spiderwebbing the bulletproof glass. Before his opponent could recover, he spun again, the other way, slammed Andy, back first, into a concrete collum.

Rage had taken over, given the smaller man inhuman endurance. He released Nightmare, before he could take another swing at the glass. Both hands pressed against, and then into, the re-enforced concrete. Like steel snakes, lengths of rebar lept forth in a shower of dust and shattered concrete. Nightmare had been off ballance, not ready, and could not dodge the onslaught. A length of steel slammed across his belly, propelling him through the second level guardrail.

Before he slammed into the tiles twenty feet below, he had time to wonder if this would be his last battle.

Keenan paused. He had been walking along this road for hours, and all he had seen was one stop sign, no exits or even a car. Where the hell was he?

“This is a waste of time,” he growled. “I have to find that girl and kill her, and walking along this damn road isn’t helping any.” Something jarred his memory. Why did he have to kill her?

I don’t know. Why do I . . . what am I doing? I’m a security guard, not a murderer. This doesn’t make any sense. How did I survive that blast?

Welcome to mutanity, Keenan. You’ve stepped up a notch.

What?

Call me K. I’m the voice of your new responsibilities. You’re just joined the master race, Keenan. You’re at the top of the food chain, with all those good old boys you backwards idiots used to keep locked up in cells because you thought you could make them better. News flash, buddy: we already were better—better than you, anyway. And now, thanks to that redhead, you get the chance to join the gang.

Keenan laughed, a hollow, desperate laugh. “Just—fucking—perfect,” he said.

“Precisely, m’boy,” K said. “Perfection indeed.”

A car crested the horizon and began wheeling its way towards them. Oh god, don’t stop, Keenan thought. He stuck his hand out to the side, thumb pointed up. The car pulled to the side.

“Can I help you,” the driver said, bending down to peer at him through the window. Keenan caught a glimpse of her red hair. “I’m sorry, I—” the woman said, her green eyes widening.

Keenan’s neck dislocated itself from the rest of his body, and his head smashed through the window and dug its teeth into her shoulder. She shrieked and stepped on the gas pedal. The car’s wheels squealed, and it tore off down the road. Keenan’s neck stretched along with it. He bit harder, and the woman went limp. Since the car hadn’t gone far, the rest of his body walked to where the car stopped. Keenan retracted his head and walked over to the driver’s side door, opening it and pulling her out into the road.

“What are you doing?!?” Keenan said.

“She’s perfect,” K said. “And thanks to her, I can be rid of you.” He laughed.

Keenan’s skin paled and stretched out. His arms and legs melted away, and he spat out of his uniform like a disgustingly pink snake. This Keenan-snake shot up into the air, defying gravity, then dove back down, its mouth open to reveal rows of sharp teeth. It hit the ground, flattening over top of the woman like a pink pancake. The pancake bulged like it was swallowing, then lay still. It flowed into its center and up into the air, taking on a human shape once more.

The woman smoothed out her clothing, smiling beatifically. Her red eyes glistened. “Much better,” K said. She got into her car and stomped on the gas pedal, leaving the tattered policeman’s uniform behind.

Andy proceeded more slowly now, being slowed by his wounds as well as his arms. He still felt none of the pain while he was driven by anger, but merely noted that he couldn’t move a certain way as quickly as before. Yet with every person he encountered, he still brutalized them and left a bloody mess for a trail. Eventually, he could smell the scent of deep fried food and clearly hear the song being played. He looked around and saw the band playing in an open space, led by some girl that also seemed to evoke feelings of familiarity. They were surrounded by a group of people that appeared mesmerized by the band and were not aware of much else around them. His blood quickened at the prospect of more bloodshed and he ran forward with surprising speed.

/* Apocalyptica - Resurrection */

It wasn’t until he was within striking distance that the crowd noticed him and his steel coated arms. He jabbed out with his arms and a pair of lances flew out, impaling one man through his jaw and throat and some boy in the shoulder. He withdrew them and melted the metal back to his arms before swinging them crosswise to slice up a pair of lovers enjoying the music. With so many targets, Andy didn’t even have to aim. He merely kept swinging and shaping the steel as he twirled to cut, stab or bludgeon whatever was around him. As the people realized their danger, they tried to flee. Seeing his fun would end prematurely, he planted his hand on the ground. The steel withdrew from his fingers, giving him contact with the floor. Quick as a thought, barbed spears erupted from the ground in a wide circle, impaling the faster runners and trapping everyone else inside. He could now kill them at his leisure. Amazingly, throughout all of this the band hadn’t missed a note or skipped a beat, still playing as flawlessly as before.

Andy ignored the band and pounced onto the back of the nearest person. He stabbed his fist into the woman’s back as she fell, but before her body hit the ground, it bloated and exploded splattering blood everywhere. He hit the floor and started moving right away towards the closest person. He ran right in front of a large man and knife handed him right between the ribs. The guy was stunned at first, but tried to force Andy’s hand out. Andy responded by forming protrusions on the blade to catch on the ribs. When he found that Andy’s hand was stuck, the guy punched Andy right on the jaw. His anger flared in response and all other thoughts were pushed away except to make him suffer.

He shifted the blade into an inverted vice, slowly pushing the ribs apart. His victim howled in pain as his bones were snapped and his flesh was split, exposing his internal organs. The man screamed as Andy ripped apart everything he could see inside the rib cage before finished it by stabbing the man’s heart. As Andy wiped the steel clean on the man’s shirt, he looked around, still with the bloody grin on his face. The others backed away from Andy, trying to get out of the palisade he made. As he walked towards the nearest one, long, curved blades formed over his hands.

Everything was going a bit crazy in the Mall. People shouting, blood being spilt, paras fighting each other...."Damn, not good."

Max had been over on Zara's side as he did his speech. Next thing he saw was him and Chaos go to blows. After intercepting a couple of the bigger parts of the tables with his new scythe, he was able to get a good panoramic view of things. Andy seemed to have gone nuts again ala The Gas Station Incident. However, Max decided to not stop him from his bloodbath.

I can't stop him this time...he needs to flex his muscles and if I try to stop him again, he'd think I'm being a hypocrite. Not the best thing to be known as with a group of people like ours. Wait, did he attack James?

Upon seeing the Bloodsucker drop to the floor and lay there, Max takes off at a dead sprint, leaving Alex to have his fun, although he seemed to be getting more and more out of hand. He comes across James' body and tries to see if he's still alive. He couldn't feel a pulse.

Damn, he's dead....wait, God I'm an idiot. Wrong way to determine life in a Vampire

Max put his head to James' chest and felt the slow up and down motion of breathing and noticed that he was bleeding pretty good. Max could easily identify the Final Death coming to the Bloodsucker if he couldn't get anymore blood to regenerate and keep him alive.

"Hold on Nightmare, I'll get you some blood."

A motion came up from the corner of his eye. Incremetially turning his head and eye, Max could see a group of Rent-a-Cop Security Guards that could sense an easy kill and a wounded animal. As Max started to get up to his feet, the guards pulled guns and pointed them in a Universal gesture of 'Don't move.' They started to smile a bit, thinking that the Freaks weren't going to be that difficult to contain, but they looked puzzled when Max slowly twisted his mouth into a sinister Cheshire Cat grin and gave a throaty chuckle.

"Well, well, well....I told ya, James. Help is here, after all. Just hold tight and you'll be fine.

San....Nii....Ich....Shien!"

In one fluid motion Max grabbed his Scythe in his left hand, started getting up and moved to the nearest guard on his right, brought his right hand up to grab the staff and pivoted his blade off his right hand and twisting to the right, thrusting his left hand up and with it the blade in a upward diagonal slash that ended with the blade above his head and a guard who seemed to just split into two parts while falling onto the floor and gushing a massive pool of his blood.

Max was without one drop of blood from the attack. The guards were starting to understand the speed and agility of this Wielder. The look of horror started to etch across their faces when the killer slowly twisted his body around to the right and planted his right foot down to give a good position to launch into another attack while the right hand held the staff and the left hand was opened with the staff resting against it vertically, the Scythe ready for any number of cuts, slices and dices towards the guards. The Cheshire Cat grin was still there.

"You boys just don't know who you're fucking with. I'll make sure you all shed enough blood to heal my friend here."

Max then started to give off a hysterical Joker-esque laugh as he launches into the throng of guards and proceeds to cut them all down and maybe leave one or two alive but incapacitated so that Nightmare can feast on them and regain his strength.

Guy was mesmerized by the battles raging below him and above him. Chaos and that glowing guy really seemed to be going at it. So focused was he on the fight, he didn't notice when a group of cops got bellow him. The Bee's wings suddenly ripped to peices by bullets, Guy found himself falling fast. Deciding to take the fall and land on the Bee's soft body, they fell untop of the man who had given them the tokens. Laying down and playing dead, he heald his breath as the cops closed in on him. Grass take it from here, I'll be getting the Monolith ready. When the cops where almost untop of him, Guy's read eye opened, and Grass was in control. Before any bullets could be fired, Guy's jaw unhinged and spewed forth another Dementia abomination. This one appeared to be a Beetle, but its back was completly flat. While shots bounced of its shell, Grass brought forth one of his claws from Guy. With one claw outside his mouth, Guy jumped from behind the Beetle and unto the nearest gaurd. Jumping on his back, he plunged the claw deep into the gaurd's skull, piercing through the bottom of the guards mouth and spraying Guy in blood. The spinning, Guy slashed 2 throats. Covered from head to toe in blood, A hideously deformed and obcenly large claw coming from his unhinged jaw, and his red eye opened wide and unblinking, Guy looked like on of his summonings. It was in this form that Guy approached the last gaurd, who lay against the wall pleading for his life. Just as the sythe like claw rose up, Guy's red eye closed, and he was back in control. Instead of slashing the gaurd, wich had by now thourghly soiled his pants, He simpley bumped him on the head and knocked him out. Ewww Grass, you got blood all over me. Didya really have to kill those gaurds?
"Probably not."
You know, sometimes your as childish and irritating as you say I am.

Fuck. Where'd he go, Chaos thought to himself. He was just here less than a minute ago. For a minute, he waited. He must be somewhere out of my range. What the hell is he doing? This song gives him the perfect chance to use his telekinesis. Why is he passing up an opportunity like this?

"Over here, Chaos!"

Chaos turned around. There was Zarathustra, standing inside a Starbuck's 85 feet away, just outside my perception range. Damn.. He looked different now - he was wearing a bowler hat, carrying a small cane, and onto one of his eyes was attached a prosthetic lash. He's trying to look like Alex from A Clockwork Orange. How... fitting.

"Up for a bit of the ol' ultraviolence my brother?"

"Why did you waste your time playing dress-up when you could've been pummeling me, Zara?" Chaos said as he made his way over to the Starbucks. "This song is perfect for it, after all."

"Please. Victory is meaningless to me. It's only the conflict itself that's worth anything. Battle is an art, Chaos, an art that is inherently temporal, much like music. I could have easily killed you by now if I'd wanted to, but I'd rather put on more of a show. After all, would you rather have a three-minute pop-song of a fight, or an epic symphony?"

"But it's no fun if you're not trying!" Chaos said as he stepped into the store. Suddenly, the entire ceiling in front of the store collapsed with a crash. Chaos was trapped in the room with Zara.

"Welly welly well. Who's trying now, droogie?"

With his armblades, Andy sliced up a young man. Three clean slashes should have separated the head, chest, thighs, and legs in a shower of blood but something was different. There was no wet splatter, no heat from a warmed, red mist. His arms felt like they had passed through a thick cloud, rather then shear through flesh and bone. The young man’s grey green eyes were wide in shock as his body fell to pieces, but it seemed that the body was empty, like it wasn’t really there. While pondering this confusing display, he felt a hand graze the back of his neck. As fast as thought, he shifted the steel around his arms to impale whatever was behind him, but the pain hit him first and he fell to the ground.

********************************

/* Apocalyptica - Heat */

His mind felt like hot splinters had been driven into his skull, numbing all other sensations. Then, it mysteriously faded much like the way it came. He slowly opened his eyes, but his vision appeared blurred. He tried his other senses, but they seemed… muted somehow. There seemed to be nothing to smell, not even the stench of overcrowding that he detected before. He could feel the ground beneath him, but it seemed less solid then he expected, like his hand could pass through if he willed it. He could hear voices all around him, yet he couldn’t make out any words, only hushed whispers. The only thing that he could sense was crystal clear was a song coming from everywhere around him. He got up off the ground and looked at himself. He saw that the steel was gone and that he was still somehow wearing the patient uniform from the sanitarium.

Andy looked about frantically. He could see people walking around him, passing by without noticing them. He looked around for a familiar face, but couldn’t find anyone. He yelled out what few names he could remember, but there was no response. Not even any of the strangers seemed to react to his outbursts. He tried to grab someone’s shoulder to ask them a few questions, but then he saw his hand pass through. He looked around, wondering if anyone else saw it, but no one seemed to notice his presence. He tried again and found that he couldn’t hit anything, people or objects. As far as the world around him was concerned, he may as well have been a ghost.

He tried to use his power on anything in reach, but it was like there was nothing for him to shift, not even the air around him. He screamed as he reached out. “I WILL BE SEEN, I WILL BE HEARD, I WILL BE FELT, BUT I WILL NOT BE IGNORED!” After his outburst, Andy fell to his knees dejectedly, his arms to his sides. He stared blankly forward and cried. He was so immersed in his plight that he didn’t perceive the young girl standing behind him, watching him from the crowd.

********************************

Back in the mall, Andy was kneeling on the ground much like he was in his vision. The steel had dripped from his hands, pooling beneath him, till his arms were bare. The barriers were broken through and everyone had fled from the destructive freak of nature. No one dared to attack him, lest they awaken him from his comatose state and restart his rampage.

Harry almost saw the scene in the mall as music, his senses split and merged, he had 5, but not the right 5, then 7, 15, 1, 3, thousands... Like dimensions, they were frames of reference, but in whatever form, on this plane of reality, or looking up or down from those layered coextant with ours they added up to one thing: Awareness.

To a normal human it would be mindbending, the way Harry percieved reality, but not for long because the mind only bends so far before it breaks. To "see through his eyes" would be worse than the deepest acid trip, a swirling miasma without any comforting frame of reference or refuge of logical thought.

Now it was worse than ever, his Awareness was nearly overwhelmed by the sense of unleashed chaos, he grasped desperatedly for a hold, tossed by a storm of panicked emotion, he needed a grip on the world of humans, he focused his mind on Morrie, letting his senses take her in from all of the angles of his omnidimensional reality. There, something Known, something, someone Real. Now make that, make HER, the anchor, a center, if arbitrary, now the hard part...

Harry opened his eyes. And screamed....

He remembered too late, that technique for centering was not supposed to be done on the living. He had always used objects in the past. He saw the world through Morries eyes, through her mind, and the horrors around him became all too real. Morrie screamed with him, but in her other voice, for Morrighen looked through Harry's eyes, through his mind into the depths of insanity, on a lovecraftian landscape of inutterable beauty, awe and horror. And Morrie's voice was silent, as she looked into Harry's soul...[/i]

Morrie screamed, but it was not her voice. Morrighen screamed, but it was not her mind.

What am I? Who are you?

Harry's reality burned through her weak mind, opening her eyes to the terrible wonders within his soul.

We see but through a looking-glass darkly . . .

Tendrils covered in grime—malformed, half-moon eyes—dripping pustules—bubbling claws—so many eyes, so many arms, so many mouths—fangs hundreds of feet long—mashed shapes, illogical patterns, nonsensical grunsts and howls—myriad splashes of ebony-trimmed light. These things and more she saw, these indescribable, beautiful horrors.

It was a silent scream, a terror which she could not fathom, that finally quieted Morrie. Somewhere else, her body shrieked in horror and pain, the feelings she could no longer express. She was gone, beyond that now--where she was, she could not tell.

Miles before I sleep.

Morrighen screamed and tore away from Harry, red eyes widening. She had never been afraid. She had always had control. She waited for the rage to build up, but it refused to obey her. Her anchor failed her for the first time.

"What are you?" she screamed, face bunched up in fright. Harry didn't answer her, hunched up on the floor and clutching his head, eyes shut tight, trying to block out what she saw. "Answer me!" She stepped back. "Answer me!" She took a hesitant step forward. "Answer me!"

Morrighen spun around, trying to focus on something besides this unman, this beyond-man that invaded her mind. She wanted to run. Her fear filled up the emptiness left by her rage. Spurred on, she latched onto the nearest crowd of people, fingers outstretched, mouth wide open in a shriek that ended with her biting off an ear. Morrighen tore into the woman, clothes and skin and muscle shredded like paper till her ragged corpse fell to the ground, loose scraps of muscle still knotted to the bone, nothing to show of her life but a spreading red stain on the floor. Morrighen stared at the red life on her clothes in barely-concealed envy. "Someone else to see for me," she said. "I can't see myself anymore." She charged a man who was running away. She leaped onto his back, knees gripping his head and smashing his face into the floor. Blood spewed across the linoleum. Morrighen pounded the back of his head till she could think no more.

Should be drinking a toast to absent friends.

Morrie stood in the center of all the chaos of Harry's mind, turning around and around, unable to understand. How could—what had happened to make it so—how could Harry's mind be like this? She fell to her knees, arm outstretched towards the massive things of her nightmares, tears flowing down her cheeks.

She wanted to know. She wanted to understand.

And like that, the floodgates opened.

Where are you going? Nowhere. Don't LIE to me! You're hiding something, you always are. All I want is the truth. You don't think you’re getting it? Leave me alone. After all I've done for you? What, given me a home where I've got nothing to care for, clothed and fed me without ever giving me what I actually deserve? Yeah, sure I was happy, I remember happy, that was before HE showed up! Get the hell out of my house! FINE!

A single step taken in anger, a little too much to drink, and suddenly in a twist of steel and bone it changes. A sea-change.

You . . . you have my name. That's funny. Yeah, that's pretty cool. So where you from? Uh . . . know that house on the hill? . . . Oh. Yeah. Wow, that's impressive. What about you? Oh, nowhere special. So, see you around? Of course.

What are the chances that two people so different could have the same name? What fate predicted this?

Oh God. . . . Hey . . . Oh, God, oh God, oh, God, Morrie. I look terrible, don't I? Yeah. I can't believe this. Well, I got a little angry, that's all, wasn't paying attention. That's when it always happens. You never hear about fate striking someone when they're paying attention. . . . What’s wrong? Oh, nothing. Just thinking. Things have changed a lot recently. Yeah. Seems like something’s going to happen soon . . . Huh? Did you ever see that old show, what was it, Star Trek? The movies? No. Why? No reason. I . . . Morrie, give me your hand. Yes? I want you to promise me something. You know I’d do it. I know . . . I’m here, Morrie. Remember me. Promise me that. Just . . . remember.

She goes out all alone and on her own.

Lights flickering on and off, and memories no longer matching. He remembered her, all right. How could he forget with her mind smashing up against his nearly every second of every day, her dying breath still echoing in his ears? He would see someone she remembered, and then the surge would come, and the lights would spark above him in recognition. He sat in his room, staring at the lampshade, clenching his fist, his veins standing out around his muscles, and the light would flicker and die. He couldn’t help but wish that he would die with it. The world wasn’t fair. God gives and takes away. Who made God God?

The light shone off the sharp metal. He winced as it bit into his skin, but the pain passed, replaced with peace, sweet peace, and the memories rushed through his mind in one last surge of brilliant power, and he felt himself carried up and out, out, out, beyond. He gasped, and the entire city plunged into darkness as two gigantic surges ripped across the grid.

Sleep now, sleep now . . . rest awhile . . . you’ll be better in the morning.

Morrie gasped, her memories slamming into her with the force of a freight train. She shuddered, lying on the ground in Harry’s soul. “Harry, help me,” she said. “I . . . can’t . . .” She opened her eyes, staring at the eldritch horrors surrounding her. She shivered. All she could think of was the blood dripping down the drain and the surge of relief it brought her. Drip, drip, explode. It was so quick. Why couldn’t she do it again?

It isn’t right anymore.

Morrighen clutched her head. “Get out of my head!” she said. “You can’t steal my face!” She stood up off the pulpy mess of a man, snarling through the red, sticky blood splattered across her face. “Leave me alone!” She took a hesitant step towards the ball what was Harry, then another, then dove at him, fingers outstretched, ready to skewer him with her nails, if only to get him to go away.

Harry’s hands caught her by the wrists, stopping her in her tracks. “Why?” he said. “Why?”

Morrighen shoved away from him. She didn’t understand, refused to understand. “Diediediediediediedie,” she hissed. She opened her mouth, inhaled.

Morrie stood up, tears streaming down her face. “I don’t understand,” she said. “Someone make me understand.” She took a step forward. A many-eyed monstrosity stared at her. “Harry? Are you in here anymore? Please, I’m afraid . . . is this what you see?” She took another step. “Is this what you are?” Don’t let my comfort be a new horror unto himself, she prayed. “Please . . . I’m so scared!” She took another step. Her eyes locked with the many-eyed creature before her. She tripped, hand flailing. Her fingers brushed the lid of one eye.

Drip, drip, explode. The surge hit.

Morrighen fell to the ground, letting out a howl that woke the very earth beneath her feet. Ghostly blue wisps of light faded in, superimposing the face of someone else over her features, and then vanished. The lights flickered wildly, and for a moment in the scattered rays, it looked like everyone had Morrie’s face.

Morrighen—no, it was Morrie now—fell to the ground, tendrils of smoke rising off her body.

Harry stared at her body and said, “Why?”

Suddenly, the music stopped, and all the lights went out. From outside, a voice could clearly be heard:

"COME OUT AND SURRENDER YOURSELVES. YOU ARE SURROUNDED. IF YOU DO NOT GIVE YOURSELVES UP WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR, WE WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE ACTION."[/b]

"COME OUT AND SURRENDER YOURSELVES. YOU ARE SURROUNDED. IF YOU DO NOT GIVE YOURSELVES UP WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR, WE WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE ACTION."

The words broke through Andy’s trance and he was back in the real world. Memories of the past half-hour flooded back to him, almost causing him to throw up his breakfast. What the hell happened to me? He shook his head and focused on the current situation. They’re here. And they’re gonna try to take us back. I won’t go back. I’ll die first. He tagged the pools of steel beside him and the metal flowed back to his arms. At least I remember how I did this. Useful trick. He walked out, destroying the stone spikes in his way. He ignored the people around him and they stayed clear of him, afraid that they would anger him and start the killing once again.

“I suppose that my fellow freaks will have heard that too. No matter. If they’re in my way, I’ll kill them with the others.” He continued talking to himself as he made his way to the front entrance. He barely noticed Lati following him, for once in a humanoid form and matching his stride.

“Hello Andy.”

“Oh, hey.”

“What’s going on?”

Hmm… what to say? “Do you remember when you were trapped back at the institute?” Lati nodded vigorously. “Well some bad people are here to take us back. They want us to be tested again like before. You don’t want that, right?” Lati shook his head back and forth quickly. “So how about this? Let’s make them go away.”

“How Andy?”

“We have to scare them. And if that doesn’t work, we have to hurt them.”

“Ok.” Wow, he is just a kid. Didn’t even ask if what we’re going to do is wrong. At this point, Lati reminded Andy of his younger brother. Damn it. Can’t think of that now. Gotta focus. His rage built as he thought about what would happen to him if captured.
