OZYMANDIAS

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said:—Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

*sigh* The three lines that were skipped since the last chapter title from the poem had such potential, too...

I figure the last one will involve part of the last line somehow.

Also, King of Kings would be a kickass chapter.

Who ever said that Poe was only going to use the lines of the poem in order? Maybe he's saving King of Kings for the Epilogue...

Currently observable phenomena "say" that chapter titles may only proceed in a forward direction through the poem.

No one said that. Did you see anyone say that?

I think the use of this phrase immediately following them (thereby implying them, for those who recognize the line) is dramatically appropriate too. Ian just did the "Look on my works, ye mighty!" bit with his whole attempted healing spell... but nothing besides remains (perhaps). Maybe Ian has attained phenomenal cosmic power to no use, as he's unable to apply it properly.

I sense a quest to discover the secrets of the power now within him may be coming up soonish.

On a tangential note... I wonder what Nookie and Kawaii have been up to all this time. I imagine they're not incredibly happy at their Goddess disappearing. Maybe they've gone to see their sisters for advice... or maybe the Ol' Bastard himself?

EDIT: Reading the above about what lines would make for the best climax, I get the sneaking suspicion that the Random Idiot quote, if used at all, will be in titles for the denouement of the story... perhaps resolving whatever remains unresolved after a great cataclysm caused by a major plot point, somewhere Far Away.

With the crew that's been assembled? That sounds pretty accurate...

This has potential, too:

Before this universe there was another one…
a happy universe filled with bunnies. But that
one got destroyed in a great cataclysm brought
about by a mayor plot point. Pay attention,
there will be a test later.

"Boundless and Bare" would work, too... Probably for a chapter of Ian or Sarine having another flashback chapter.... I would suggest Jon's second flashback, but, Poe wouldn't do that, would he? Jon is just too much drama... o.o

I went to the wiki article about the poem (which actually refers to ES as using the poem, thus making me chuckle) and after thinking about it, I came up with something:

The main lesson of the poem is about the finity of everything and no matter how great you are, in the ravages of time you'll be nothing more than a pockmark in history, right? If so, then perhaps the resulting climax of the comic is the destruction of the remaining Elven bastion of Praernublius Astu and the scattering of all these forces - Elves, Ensigrium, Gewehr, the main characters - to the Four Winds?

Or if all else fails, he could just pull a variation out of End of Eva, leaving Jon & Sarine staring at a red sea obscuring a giant coke'd out visage of Meji. They look at each other and the series ends. Of course knowing Poe, would I put this past him? No. Do I think he'll actually do this? No way in Hell. But it does make me wonder.

One thing though - for the pages read, I don't feel like I'm in a Chapter 26. I could honestly only really think of maybe 7-10 chapter breaks. Every time I see the chapter number on the breaks, I keep getting shocked because I think, "Wasn't it just Chapter 14? How did it get to 26 so soon?"

I *like* climaxes! :-D

On another front, The Bookies asked me to send their greetz from Monte Carlo. The tables are hot, the women are hotter, and the weather is as nice as Nice. Everyone that was going to was paid off and no one wanted to bet against them that this was the chapter end. Imagine that?

BTW, I may be moving from Neuchatel to Nyon soon, ciao!

Didn't we just finish chapter 12?

maybe thats a preview of the chapter 26 cover... and it isn't the real chapter 13 cover.

Volume One: Preface and Chapters 1-4
Volume Two: Chapters 5-10
Volume Three: Chapters 11-18
Volume Four: Chapters 19-?? (probably 26, actually, but it might go to 27)

This past year has actually done a lot to advance the plot and set things up for the end of the story. It's difficult to describe ES in terms of a single climax, though. There are lots of intricate little sub-plots still to resolve, and so there will also be lots of smaller rising and falling actions and mini-climaxes over the course of the books. Sure, the big bang and denouement will come towards the very end, as in most novels, but there's a lot that happens in between. That's what makes the world of ES so rich.

You'd almost think Poe was sick or something. Proceeding with plot? In Errant Story? Heaven Forbid!

Is it just me or does Ian look decidedly thinner?

And I mean not just 'hey you dropped a few pounds' thinner, I mean 'hi, my name is Ian, and I'm addicted to cocaine' thinner.

... Okay I still don't know why this beaver is crying.

Yeah, I really didn't think Poe would be going coherently through the poem, that's too predictable.

I met a traveller from an antique land (10)
Who said:—Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage (12) lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command (22)
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive (14), stamp'd on these lifeless things (16),
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains (26): round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

I have a good feeling "The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fled" might show up... possibly referencing the gods (wait, I just started debating the meaning of the poem in this comic... I take that back).

Hmm, Ian is "boundless" right now... please don't tell me he does the "bare".

I don't know, but I would love to see Ian start to rip the world apart and leave us with the last line as the very end of our story.

I see hills of sand swirling, dim, overlayed with the words, "The lone and level sands stretched far away..."

Almost gives me chills.

Also, to the dude with the crying beaver problem, the beaver is crying because he is Canadian, which is an unfortunate state of affiars for anyone
