It's just a modified XP visual style- it's called Unfounded, and it's by a dude who calls himself Thyngum (Which you can get here).

The background's also off of DA, and it's called life is minimal.

I used to use Geoshell, but I've found I actually somewhat like XP's flavor of explorer when stripped down.

Wow, you people have clean desktops. Mine is cluttered with stuff I'm too lazy to remove/organize. Including a cross-sampling of the last decade of computer gaming and about 10 "casual" games that I played a few times before tiring of them.

I'm sure the state of my start menu would cause some of you to faint.

(My KDE desktop was a lot cooler, but I no longer have a Linux partition due to various sordid reasons)

That's a neat little widget at the bottom. However, Steam?

What is it, Counter-Strike? Are you an AWP whore?

this has been my desktop background ever since i found it (~6 months ago) and is very likely to remain just that forever and ever.

i have yet to prettify the icons since the last format but note the utter lack of mmorpg shortcuts :-3

Yes. In specific, I do. It's very stable if you renice it to -5.

It works for me, which is the definition of practical.
